Netflix announced today the global premiere date for Royalteen, a new young adult romance drama film from Norway.
Directed by Per-Olav Sørensen (Quicksand, Home for Christmas, Nobel) and Emilie Beck (When You Left, Do You Want Me Back?), Royalteen is based on The Heir, the first book in the acclaimed “Royalteen” young adult novel series by Randi Fuglehaug and Anne Gunn Halvorsen.
Royalteen, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Wednesday, August 17, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now on the show’s page at netflix.com/royalteen.)
The love story — one about living with your mistakes, conquering your fears, and breaking the internet — centers on new girl-next-door in town Lena (Ines Høysæter Asserson, Heirs of the Night) and Norwegian prince Karl Johan (newcomer Mathias Storhøi), known as Kalle amongst his friends. When the two begin to develop feelings for each other, Lena is charmed, but also skeptical for many reasons: Party prince Kalle is a regular figure in the tabloids and the gossip blogs — one of them run anonymously by Lena herself until she was exposed. Lena is painfully aware that dating the future king might put both of them in an impossible situation, and she hasn’t told Kalle or anyone else about her even bigger secret, which is also the reason why she moved away from her hometown…
The film’s cast includes Elli Müller Osborne (Ida Takes Charge), Filip Bargee Ramberg (Snøfall), Amalie Sporsheim (Rådebank), Ina Dajanna Ervik, Hannah Larsen Walberg, Vår Sørensen Grønlie (Home for Christmas), Niels Skåber (Snøfall), and Carmen Andrea Høilund.
A production of The Global Ensemble Drama (Christmas Tomorrow), the film is written by Ester Grenersen (Stardust) and produced by Janne Hjeltnes (Hotel Cæsar).
