Netflix has announced the cast and the start of filming for La cuidadora, a new mystery thriller movie from Spain by Álex de la Iglesia.
Filming began last week in Madrid, Spain, on La cuidadora (literal translation: The Caregiver), the new film by multi-award winner Álex de la Iglesia (30 Coins, The Chalk Line, 1992).
The mystery thriller stars Carmen Maura (Someone Has to Die, Land of Women, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) and Blanca Suárez (Breathless, Cable Girls, Jaguar), with Marta Hazas (Alpha Males, Velvet), Asier Etxeandia (Sky Rojo, Velvet), and David Comrie (Money Heist, 30 Coins) completing the cast.
In the film, 80-year-old widow Carmen (Carmen Maura) has an accident at home, so her daughter, Lourdes, decides to hire a caregiver to help with her mother’s daily needs. Used to living alone, Carmen rejects all of the candidates, feeling her space is being invaded, which frustrates Lourdes, who feels her own life is being disrupted by her mother’s constant need for attention.
What’s more, the stressful and seemingly never-ending parade of caregivers strains Lourdes’s marriage. Her husband, Mario, has been forced to turn down an important job offer. Tired of the endless cycle of interviews, hires, and dismissals, Lourdes argues with her mother, which makes her feel guilty. Just when it seems no caregiver will ever be good enough for Carmen, Blanca arrives — a woman with an angelic appearance who is kind, efficient, and resourceful. But things are not as they seem. Blanca hides a secret that will change Carmen’s life forever.
