As soon as I learned about Hot Skull (Sicak Kafa) and could set a reminder for the series, I did. And when it didn’t arrive on October 1 as had been reported, I was disappointed and started checking Netflix every day to see if it had shown up yet. Nope. So now, finally, we have a for-real premiere date for it.

Hot Skull, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Friday, December 2, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)

Based on the novel Sıcak Kafa by Afşin Kum, Hot Skull is set in a world that has been shaken by “jabbering,” an epidemic of madness spread through language and speech, going from one person’s mind to the next and the next and so on and infecting them.

The one person who has remained mysteriously unaffected by the jabbering disease is Murat (Osman Sonant, Leyla and Mecnun, Rise of Empires: Ottoman), a former linguist who had studied the disease. In order to hide his condition from everyone, he took refuge at his mother’s home and became a recluse.

But then he’s found out and the ruthless Anti-Epidemic Institution go after him, forcing him to leave the safe zone and flee into the ruins of Istanbul, where he searches for the secret of his “hot skull” — a lasting mark of the disease.

The eight-episode dystopian adventure story costars Şevket Çoruh (Back Streets), Hazal Subaşı (Çukur), Tilbe Saran (Istanbullu Gelin), Kubilay Tunçer (Fatma), Özgür Emre Yıldırım (50M2), Gonca Vuslateri (Anne), Zerrin Sümer (The Ambassador’s Daughter), Yetkin Dikinciler (The Other Path), Hakan Gerçek (Ezel), Erdem Akakçe (Rise of Empires: Ottoman), Barış Yıldız (The Four Walls), Arda Anarat (The Magnificent Century), Furkan Kalabalık (Mahkum), Şebnem Hassanisoughi (Man on Pause), Cüneyt Uzunlar (Alparslan: Büyük Selçuklu), and Haluk Bilginer (Innocent).

Created and directed by Mert Baykal (The Magnificent Century), Hot Skull is written by Mert Baykal, Zafer Külünk, Gökhan Şeker, and Müjgan Ferhan Şensoy. Timur Savcı is the producer, and Şeyba Tüysüzoğlu and Fatih Tekşal the executive producers.
