Netflix has set the premiere date for My Name Is Vendetta, a new action-crime thriller from Italy starring Alessandro Gassmann. Check out the intense trailer.
Maybe it’s just me, but I couldn’t help but think of the film Léon: The Professional when I watched the trailer for My Name Is Vendetta (Il mio nome è vendetta).
Set in Northern Italy, My Name Is Vendetta stars Alessandro Gassman (The Bastards of Pizzofalcone, Redemption) as Santo, a loving husband and father who’s been hiding a dark past that catches up with him.
Santo’s daughter, Sofia (Ginevra Francesconi, Buongiorno, mamma!, Don Matteo), is a quiet teenager who spends her time between hockey games (she’s an ace on the ice) and off-road driving lessons. She’s a good kid, except one day she disobeys her father and secretly takes a pic of him. What’s worse is she posts it on her Instagram. In that moment she doesn’t realize this small act will be the uh-oh moment to end all uh-oh moments for her, as it sets off a chain of events that will change her and Santo’s lives forever.
After seeing her IG post and following the data trail, two criminals enter the family’s home and brutally kill Sofia’s mother and uncle, giving rise to a settling of scores that has been brewing for almost twenty years.
Sofia soon discovers the truth that has always been kept from her: that her father had been an affiliate of the N’drangheta criminal organization. Although conflicted, she ultimately embraces a legacy of fury and violence and allies with Santo to seek merciless revenge.
My Name Is Vendetta, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Wednesday, November 30, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
Written and directed by Cosimo Gomez (Il postino), the fast-paced, action-packed survival and revenge film features Remo Girone (Ford v Ferrari), Marcello Mazzarella (The Hunter), and Alessio Praticò (The Miracle).
