Netflix has released a touching trailer for The Map of Longing (aka El mapa de los anhelos), a new drama series from Spain. Check it out.
Getting choked up from watching a trailer is a good sign that I will be a right mess when I fire up my Chromecast or Roku to tune into that show or movie. The former just happened, so I expect the latter will, too, with The Map of Longing.
Adapted from Spanish author Alice Kellen’s eponymous novel, The Map of Longing tells the moving story of two sisters, a game, and a journey of self-discovery. Starring in the six-episode limited series are Alícia Falcó (Billionaires’ Bunker, Tell Me Softly), Pablo Álvarez (El Cid, Zeta), and Georgina Amorós (In Love All Over Again, Elite).
Greta (Alícia Falcó) is certain that she was put on this earth for the express purpose of donating her stem cells to her sister, Lucy (Georgina Amorós), to help save Lucy from the leukemia that has been slowly killing her. But Lucy succumbs to her cruel fate and dies, leaving Greta not only bereft, but also in an existential crisis.
However, before Lucy passed away, she had created “the map of longing,” a game that challenges Greta to face her grief and discover her own path. Lucy also entrusted Will (Pablo Álvarez), an enigmatic young man with a haunting past, to bring the game to Greta.
So begins Greta’s journey to finding and loving herself, and more…
