Netflix announced today the Swedish feature A Day and a Half, which marks the directorial debut of renowned actor Fares Fares, who also costars in the film.
Multi-award-winning actor Fares Fares (Chernobyl, Partisan, Department Q films) will step behind the camera to direct A Day and a Half, a new Swedish film featuring Alexej Manvelov (Top Dog, Occupied, Before We Die) and Alma Pöysti (Tove, Liberty) in the lead roles, as well as Fares Fares himself, who costars.
Inspired by true events, the story follows a trip of a lifetime, but not the kind that most people would dream of. In order to reunite with his daughter, Artan (Alexej Manvelov) takes his ex-wife, Louise (Alma Pöysti), hostage and embarks on a thrilling and emotion-charged road trip with her — along with police officer Lukas (Fares Fares). The journey takes them through rural Sweden during a hot summer, all while the police are hot on their heels.
Said Fares Fares:
“I’m really looking forward for this story to unfold on screen and feel privileged to have some of the best cast and team on board to make that happen.”
A Day and a Half is written by Fares Fares and Peter Smirnakos, with Johan Hedman attached as executive producer. Christina Legkova will serve as a producer alongside Hanna Lundmark.
Said Claire Willats, Director of Film, Nordics, at Netflix:
“We are honored that Netflix will be the home of the first film directed by Fares Fares and are excited to work with such a talented team behind and in front of the camera. A Day and a Half is in essence an intimate story about loss, lies, betrayals, love, prejudice and family – packaged in a tense thriller format.”
A production of Warner Bros. International TV Production in Sweden, the Swedish-language film will start shooting in Sweden in late May 2022, with a global release on Netflix slated for 2023. You can set a reminder for it now at www.netflix.com/adayandahalf.
Stay tuned for updates.
