Based on the novel Kærlighed for voksne by Anna Ekberg, Loving Adults is a thriller filled with twists and turns, and where nothing is what it seems to be. Barbara Rothenborg (One-Two-Three Now!, Sjit Happens) directs the film produced by Marcella Dichmann for SF Studios, the production company behind the Swedish Netflix Original series Snabba Cash and Netflix’s first Swedish feature film Red Dot.

The series stars Dar Salim (Black Crab, Dicte, Borgen, Game of Thrones) as Christian and Sonja Ricther (Follow the Money, The Bridge, Department Q: The Keeper of Lost Causes, The Eagle) as Leonora — a couple who seems to have it all. They are living the perfect life with their son, who’s just been declared healthy after a severe long-term illness, and their future finally seems bright.

But at a party at entrepreneur Christian’s company, Leonora sees her husband with a younger woman, the architect Xenia. In that moment, Leonora, who sacrificed her own career to take care of their son and family, realizes that he might leave her for this other woman, and immediately makes a decision: She refuses to be the woman who gets left behind — by all means necessary.

Said Barbara Rothenborg, director:

“To me, Loving Adults is a dark and twisted, thrilling yet sexy film about what terrible things we men and women can end up doing to each other, if pushed too far… It’s about the very thin line between love and hate – and how jealousy and bitterness can bring out the worst in all of us. A subject matter I’ve always found extremely fascinating, and with my sensibility and visual style, and my general love for the genre, together with this amazing cast I cannot wait to bring this chilling story to life.”

Additional cast members include Sus Wilkins (Below the Surface, Greyzone), Mikael Birkkjær (Borgen, The Killing), Lars Ranthe (The Chestnut Man, Seaside Hotel), Morten Burian (Ride Upon the Storm, Dicte), Benjamin Kitter (Department Q: A Conspiracy of Faith, The Day Will Come), Karoline Hamm (Equinox, The Sommerdahl Murders), and Natalï Vallespir Sand (Follow the Money, The Protectors).

Production recently started on Loving Adults, which will be release globally on Netflix in 2022. (You can set a reminder for it now.) The film will also be broadcast on TV 2 in Denmark at a later date.

Stay tuned for updates.
