Based on the acclaimed novel The Chestnut Man by Søren Sveistrup (The Killing), named a “Best Book of the Year” by Kirkus, Library Journal, and New York Times Book Review, the upcoming TV series The Chestnut Man (Kastanjemanden) is a character-driven psychological thriller that takes the viewer on a dark and unpredictable hunt for a killer who leaves chestnut figurines as a creepy calling card on the victims.

In a quiet suburb of Copenhagen on a blustery October morning, the police make a gruesome discovery: a young woman is found brutally murdered in a playground, and one of her hands is missing. Above her hangs a small man made of chestnuts.

Ambitious young detective Naia Thulin (Danica Curcic, Equinox, Warrior) and her partner, Mark Hess (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, The Rain, The Legacy), are assigned to the case. They soon discover a mysterious piece of evidence on the chestnut man: evidence connecting it to a girl who went missing a year earlier and was presumed dead — the daughter of politician Rosa Hartung (Iben Dorner, The Sommerdahl Murders, Borgen).

The six-part thriller costars David Dencik (Quicksand), Lars Ranthe (Seaside Hotel), Esben Dalgaard Andersen (Couple Trouble), Morten Brovn Jørgensen (Rita), Thomas Hwan (Follow the Money), Signe Egholm Olsen (Borgen), Jens Jørn Spottag (The Legacy), Camilla Lau (Ride Upon the Storm), Peder Thomas Pedersen (The Lawyer), Marie-Lydie Melono Nokouda (Department Q: The Absent One), and Anders Hove (Splitting Up Together).

Produced by SAM Productions (Ragnarok), The Chestnut Man is written by Søren Sveistrup (The Killing), Dorte Høgh (Dicte), David Sandreuter (Pros and Cons), and Mikkel Serup (The Killing), who also directs the series. The producers are Stine Meldgaard and Morten Kjems Hytten Juhl, with Søren Sveistrup and Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen executive producing.

The Chestnut Man will launch worldwide on Netflix (date tba). You can set a reminder for it at www.netflix.com/thechestnutman.

Stay tuned for updates.
