So begins the hunt for a serial killer by two German police investigators, detective Éric Maes (Grégory Fitoussi, Spiral, Camilla Läckberg’s Erica) and Captain Franz Agerland (Tchéky Karyo, I3P, Baptiste) of the Karlsruhe Police’s Criminal Investigation Department. Heweliusz (Poland)

Inspired by true events, this historical drama, part The Perfect Storm, part Titanic, part Chernobyl, is about the sinking of the Polish rail car- and truck-carrying ferry MF Jan Heweliusz, the largest maritime disaster in post-war Poland. Told over the course of five episodes, the drama opens on the night of January 13, 1993, when the ferry, with 29 crew members and 35 truck-driver passengers aboard, departs from the port of Świnoujście in Poland and heads towards Ystad in Sweden. What should have been an uneventful journey becomes anything but; shortly after leaving port, the Heweliusz gets caught in a violent storm, with all on board fighting for their lives.

The Heweliusz capsizes and sinks in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Rügen, a German island, on January 14, 1993. Nine crew members survive; the remaining 55 people perish. To preserve the dignity and good name of their loved ones lost at sea, the victims’ devastated families undertake an arduous fight to uncover the truth about the disaster.

(The wreck of the MF Jan Heweliusz rests at the bottom of the Baltic Sea.)

In Season 2, their mother, Mona (Anna Bjelkreud, Blinded), returns to Sweden, marking a significant turning point in their lives. For Ellen, who was thirteen when Mona left, it is a transformative journey into adulthood; for Alva, who was only five, she views her mother more as an acquaintance, initially keeping their relationship relatively uncomplicated.

But things change for Alva with losing her partner, Nico (Hannes Fohlin, The New Force, Thin Blue Line), embarking on a new career path, and achieving something she believed to be impossible (albeit in the completely wrong way). Meanwhile, Nico explores the dynamics of a nuclear family, while Ellen’s husband, Alex (Ulf Stenberg, The Playlist, The Big Fix), encounters a new female boss who genuinely values his contributions.

Meaning of Life: Season 2 premieres in the US with four episodes on Thursday, November 6, exclusively on Viaplay on Prime Channels and other Viaplay partner channels. The final four episodes will drop on November 13.

Inspired by the story of Adelina Tattilo, this new biopic-historical drama series stars Carolina Crescentini (Everything Calls for Salvation, The Bastards of Pizzofalcone, The Sea Beyond) as the editor of Mrs. Playmen, the first and most famous erotic magazine in Italy. Set in the conservative, moralistic Rome of the 1970s, the seven-episode drama follows Adelina, a pioneering entrepreneur in an era when women were confined to the roles of mothers and housewives. A devout Catholic, she is also a bold nonconformist who stood at the forefront of battles for divorce, abortion rights, and women’s emancipation.

When her husband, Saro Balsamo (Francesco Colella, The Leopard, Christian), abandons her, leaving her alone to face creditors as the sole owner of an empire on the brink of collapse, Adelina refuses to give up. She reinvents Mrs. Playmen, transforming it into a sophisticated and cutting-edge publication — defying the entrenched sexism of the time by gathering around her a team of brilliant intellectuals, daring creatives, and visionary photographers. Although she undergoes a heart transplant that gives her a second chance at life, the successful procedure also awakens in her an unease that she cannot ignore: She needs to know who her donor was.

So begins Clara’s search, which leads her to a small, mysterious inland village, where she discovers that the heart now beating inside her once belonged to a young man who was caught in an unresolved tragedy. Clara ends up delving into this place full of secrets and a mystery that extends over twenty years, triggering a chain of events that will uncover a past that many believed had been buried forever. How interesting, then, that on the very day of Clara’s arrival, a baby disappears in a public park.

At 35, Jan appears to have it all: a prestigious career at Morgan Stanley, a glamorous life in New York City, and a budding romance with American socialite Merrill McCloud (Zoe Boyle, Downton Abbey, Frontier). But then tragedy strikes his family in Sweden, thrusting Jan into a leadership role at Kinnevik.

So begins a high-stakes battle between tradition and innovation, as Jan’s visionary ideas clash with his siblings’ conservative approach. His relentless ambition and visionary pursuit reshape the Nordic media and telecom landscape, breaking Sweden’s telephone monopoly and launching TV3, Scandinavia’s first commercial channel. Jan’s bold strategies don’t just transform the Nordic market; they influence global players, inspiring Rupert Murdoch’s Sky TV model and laying the groundwork for Vodafone’s rise. However, Jan’s meteoric ascent comes at a cost. Haunted by loneliness and strained family ties, his life is as tumultuous as it is transformative.
