Inspired by real events, the six-part King of Stonks follows Felix Armand (Thomas Schubert, Murder by the Lake), an overly-ambitious, power-hungry, and greedy programmer and “almost CEO” of start-up company Cable Cash, who will do absolutely anything to climb that final step to the top.

While his megalomaniac boss, Magnus (Matthias Brandt, Dark Woods), basks in the spotlight, Felix is in the background, holding up a crumbling wall against the mafia, investors, regulatory bodies, and short sellers. What’s the guy to do? Fake it til he makes it.

So Felix transforms from being a lousy little programmer into the biggest swindler in German post-war history.

While Felix is digging himself into an ever-deeper hole of doctored accounts, floating the company on the stock market becomes a risky tightrope walk, and the hyped stocks of Cable Cash AG — the most successful FinTech company of all time and all of Germany — are fast turning into over-inflated stonks. Or are they?

Soon everything blows up in Felix’s face — we’re talking money laundering, investor deception, and internet pornography — and once again everything’s on him, even after he manages to free Magnus from the clutches of the Sicilian Mafia. The press, politicians, and members of the criminal underworld, not to mention Magnus himself — they all want a piece of the pie and Felix can’t keep up trying to play them all against each other.

Amidst everything, there’s Sheila Williams (Larissa Sirah Herden, Bad Banks), a short seller and a woman Felix really shouldn’t fall in love with, but…

Following its World Premiere at the Munich International Film Festival on June 25, King of Stonks, a Netflix Original series, will premiere globally on Wednesday, July 6, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)

The cast includes Sophia Burtscher (Tatort: Cologne), Altine Emini (SOKO Stuttgart), and Andreas Döhler (Faster than Fear), amongst others.

A production of btf GmbH, King of Stonks is created by showrunners and executive producers Philipp Käßbohrer and Matthias Murmann, who brought us the global hit series How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast). It is written by Jan Eichberg (How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)), Fabienne Hurst (Zapp), and Mats Frey (The Undertaker). The series is directed by lead director Jan Bonny (Tatort: Borowski), who also executive produces, as well as Facundo Scalerandi (How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)), and Isabell Šuba (Barcelona Crime).
