From the looks of the trailer, Borgen – Power & Glory (Season 4 of Borgen) has lost none of its powerful storytelling since the third season of this mega-hit Danish political drama concluded its run in the Nordics nearly a decade ago. In little more than two minutes, the trailer delivers the show’s hallmark political intrigue and drama, which made the series one of the most popular international titles out of Scandinavia in the past fifteen years — garnering a BAFTA Award win and an International Emmy® Award nomination, amongst its accolades.

In Borgen – Power & Glory, Sidse Babett Knudsen (Roadkill, Westworld, 1864) reprises her role as Birgitte Nyborg, the former Prime Minister of Denmark and the country’s newly-appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs. Also returning to the series is Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (Greyzone, In Order of Disappearance, Game of Thrones) as Katrine Fønsmark, Birgitte’s former head of press, now the director of the news department for a large, nationwide television station.

The eight-episode new season sees a drilling company suddenly discovering oil in Greenland, an event that “could be a climate catastrophe.” It also marks the beginning of an international struggle for power in the Arctic. We’re talking the United States, China, and Russia. While Nyborg is an experienced politician, here she faces a massive situation — one in which Denmark’s “big brother” relationship with Greenland means little when Denmark is but a minor player in the midst of global superpowers.

As individuals and nations struggle for power, the impact of power affects people both professionally and on a personal level. People like Birgitte and Katrine.

The cast includes Mikkel Boe Følsgaard (The Chestnut Man), Nivi Pedersen (Thin Ice), Svend Hardenberg, and Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen (The Rain), along with Özlem Saglanmak (Follow the Money), Simon Bennebjerg (The Legacy), Johanne Louise Schmidt (Snow Angels), Magnus Millang (Another Round), and Darren Pettie (Mad Men).

Also returning from the original cast are Søren Malling as Torben Friis, Signe Egholm Olsen as Anne Sofie Lindenkrone, Mikael Birkkjær as Philip Christensen, Lisbeth Wulff as Pia Munk, Lars Mikkelsen as Søren Ravn, Laura Allen Müller Smith as Nadia Barazani, Jens Albinus as Jon Berthelsen, Lars Knutzon as Bent Sejrø, Peter Mygind as Michael Laugesen, Morten Kirkskov as Niels Erik Lund, and Angunnguaq Larsen as Jens Enok Berthelsen.

Borgen – Power & Glory premieres globally (outside of the Nordic countries) on Thursday, June 2, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)

Until then, head to Netflix and catch up on the first three seasons of Borgen.
