The upcoming fourth season of the multi-award-winning Borgen, titled Borgen – Power & Glory, will premiere on Netflix in the Nordic countries on April 14 and the rest of the world on June 2.

As with the first three seasons, this standalone continuation of the previous seasons follows Birgitte Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen), her staff, and the media tasked with covering Nyborg, this time in her role as the newly-appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs.

When a drilling company suddenly discovers oil in Greenland, the event marks the beginning of an international struggle for power in the Arctic — one in which the experienced Nyborg must repeatedly accept that, despite Denmark’s “big brother” relationship with Greenland, when it comes to the international superpowers, it is Denmark that is the minor player… and a somewhat unruly one at that.

Meanwhile, Birgitte’s former head of press, Katrine Fønsmark (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen), is back in journalism, having landed a job as head of the news department for a large, nationwide television station.

The new season deals with political issues that include the relevance of the Danish Realm in the modern world, the superpowers’ battle for control of the Arctic, and the climate crisis. The main story focuses on the struggle for power and what power does to people, both professionally and on a personal level.

In addition to Sidse Babett Knudsen and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, the cast of Borgen – Power & Glory includes Mikkel Boe Følsgaard (The Chestnut Man), Nivi Pedersen (Thin Ice), Svend Hardenberg, and Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen (The Rain), along with Özlem Saglanmak (Follow the Money), Simon Bennebjerg (The Legacy), Johanne Louise Schmidt (Snow Angels), Magnus Millang (Another Round), and Darren Pettie (Mad Men).

Also returning from the original cast are Søren Malling as Torben Friis, Signe Egholm Olsen as Anne Sofie Lindenkrone, Mikael Birkkjær as Philip Christensen, Lisbeth Wulff as Pia Munk, Lars Mikkelsen as Søren Ravn, Laura Allen Müller Smith as Nadia Barazani, Jens Albinus as Jon Berthelsen, Lars Knutzon as Bent Sejrø, Peter Mygind as Michael Laugesen, Morten Kirkskov as Niels Erik Lund, and Angunnguaq Larsen as Jens Enok Berthelsen.

A project of SAM Productions (The Chestnut Man, Ragnarok) for DR in cooperation with Netflix, Borgen – Power & Glory is created, written, and executive produced by Adam Price. Also executive producing is Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen. Per Fly is the conceptual director, Stine Meldgaard Madsen the producer, and Emilie Lebech Kaae the creative producer.
