Today Netflix dropped the official trailer for Generation 56K, its latest Original series from Italy, which launches globally next month.
Set on Procida off the coast of Naples in southern Italy, romantic comedy-drama Generation 56K (Generazione 56K) follows four friends — Daniel (Angelo Spagnoletti, A Couple), Matilda (Cristina Cappelli, Twice), Luca (Gianluca Colucci, Don Matteo), and Sandro (Fabio Balsamo, Don Matteo) — whose lives are forever changed as teenagers in the late ’90s when the internet finally becomes available on their small island.
Told from the points of view of Daniel and Matilda across two timelines, the series sees them forming a bond during the 56K modem era, and then meeting by chance and reconnecting via the internet twenty years later — leading them to remember when the internet landed in their lives and their hormones kicked in. Certain feelings never change, so will their friendship transform into something else?
A production of Cattleya (Gomorrah, Suburra: Blood on Rome, ZeroZeroZero), the eight-episode series costars Biagio Forestieri (1993), Sebastiano Kiniger (The Ladies’ Paradise), Elena Starace (Gomorrah), and Claudia Tranchese (Gomorrah).
Generation 56K, a Netflix Original series, premieres globally on Thursday, July 1, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
