Netflix has released the official trailer for Equinox, the streamer’s second Original series from Denmark.
Based on the acclaimed podcast Equinox 1985 by Tea Lindeburg, Equinox is a character-driven supernatural thriller about a young woman named Astrid, who is very affected by the unexplainable disappearance of her sister and her school class in 1999. It is set in Denmark and swipes back and forth between 1999, when it all started, and the present day.
The six-episode series stars Danica Curcic (The Chestnut Man, Warrior, Nobel), Alexandre Willaume (Rita, Below the Surface), and Lars Brygmann (Dicte, Unit One).
Astrid is only 9 years old in 1999, when a class of graduating students vanishes without a trace. Her sister is one of the missing students, and Astrid becomes traumatized and plagued by horrific visions after her sibling’s disappearance. Twenty-one years later, Astrid (Danica Curcic) is the host of a late-night radio show when her nightmares suddenly return. When one of the three survivors from 1999 contacts her while she’s on air, then mysteriously dies soon thereafter, Astrid is determined to find out what happened to her sister and the class — only to discover a dark and unsettling truth that involves her in ways she never imagined.
Costars include Viola Martinsen (When the Dust Settles), Hanne Hedelund (Borgen), Karoline Hamm (The Sommerdahl Murders), Fanny Leander Bornedal (The Bridge), August Carter (Little Murders), and Ask Emil Mossberg Truelsen (Lukas and the Aspies).
Produced by Apple Tree Productions (The Killing, The Bridge), the series is created and written by Tea Lindeburg, produced by Dorthe Riis Lauridsen, and executive produced by Piv Bernth. Søren Balle (Follow the Money) is the lead director.
Equinox, a Netflix Original series, premieres globally on Wednesday, December 30, exclusively on Netflix. You can set a reminder for it now on the show’s program page at Netflix.com/equinox.
