HBO announced today the US premiere date for 30 Coins, a horror series from Spain, and dropped the show’s trailer.
Produced by HBO Europe in Spain, 30 Coins (30 Monedas) premieres in the US with its first two episodes, airing back to back, on Monday, January 4, at 9 PM ET/PT, on HBO.
The eight-episode horror series will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
30 Coins follows Father Vergara (Eduard Fernández, Criminal: Spain, The Zone), an exorcist who is sent away by the church to become the local priest of Pedraza, a remote town in Spain. When inexplicable terror begins to plague the idyllic community, the local vet, Elena (Megan Montaner, Velvet Colección, The Embassy), and the town’s mayor, Paco (Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Velvet, Sense8), form an unlikely alliance to understand the source of the strange and demonic events.
The series, which was shot in Rome, Paris, New York, Jerusalem, Geneva, and throughout Spain, costars Macarena Gómez (I Know Who You Are), Pepón Nieto (I Know Who You Are), and Manolo Solo (The Plague).
Written by Álex de la Iglesia and Jorge Guerricaechevarría, and directed by acclaimed horror auteur Álex de la Iglesia (The Day of the Beast, The Last Circus), the Spanish-language series is produced in participation with HBO Latin America. The Executive Producers for HBO Europe are Steve Matthews, Miguel Salvat, and Antony Root. Álex de la Iglesia and Carolina Bang are Executive Producers for Pokeepsie Films, which provided production services.
30 Coins will be featured on HBO Max and can be found on the streamer’s new “International Genre” page alongside a curated selection of programming from around the world, including Max Original series 4 Blocks (from Germany), Gomorrah (from Italy), and Patria (from Spain).
