Let’s all give a collective “Whoop, whoop!” for the return of Rita, the Danish series that has given us four, soon to be five, seasons of pure, unadulterated TV viewing delight.

Starring Mille Dinesen (Borgen, Those Who Kill), Rita has garnered fans across the globe for its brilliant storytelling, thought-provoking social commentary, laugh-out-loud zingers, and, of course, the character of Rita Madsen — the inimitable, irrepressible, unconventional, unpredictable, and totally irresistible single mum and schoolteacher we’ve loved since day one of the series.

Created by Christian Torpe (Deliver Us), and written by Torpe and Marie Østerbye (Splitting Up Together), the fifth and final season finds Rita having just bought her childhood home. Not only does she live in a small apartment in it, she and her colleague, Hjørdis (Lise Baastrup, Hjørdis), have converted the place into a school.

But the demands of running the school strain Hjørdis’s relationships with Rita and Uffe (Kristoffer Fabricius, The Other World), Hjørdis’s partner. Other events include Jeppe (Nikolaj Groth, The Rain), Rita’s son, returning home a heartbroken young man, and an old flame re-entering Rita’s life.

Cast members returning for Season 5 include Ellen Hillingsø (Bron/Broen), Carsten Bjørnlund (The Legacy), and Peter Ganzler (Couple Trouble). Joining the cast are Søs Egelind (Lulu the Bankrobber’s Wife), Lisbeth Dahl (Elverkongen), Ari Alexander (Norskov), and Marie Tourell Søderberg (1864).

Here’s a little something to get you in the Rita mood:

Rita: Season 5, a Netflix Original series, premieres in the US on Saturday, August 15, exclusively on Netflix.
