Variety has confirmed that Pilou Asbæk (Borgen, The Borgias, A Hijacking) will appear in the sixth season of Game of Thrones as Euron Greyjoy, “a skilled warrior who captains a ship called the Silence, and is known for his tempestuous and unpredictable moods.”

Family-wise, Euron Greyjoy is the brother of Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide), Lord of the Iron Islands, and the uncle of Theon (Alfie Allen) and Yara (Gemma Whelan).

Asbæk’s costar in Borgen, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, appeared in the “Hardhome” episode of Game of Thrones: Season 5 as Karsi, a Wilding chieftainess.

The news about Pilou Asbæk follows the earlier announcements that British actor Ian McShane will feature in Game of Thrones‘ upcoming season in an unspecified role, and that Sweden’s renowned two-time Oscar® nominee Max von Sydow will take over the role of the Three-Eyed Raven.

Assuming these films get distribution in the US and UK, Euro TV and film fans on both sides of the pond will be able to see Pilou Asbæk next in April 9th, which opened in Denmark back in March, and A War, which will be released on 10 September 2015 in Denmark.

Asbæk plays Pontius Pilate in the 2016 MGM remake of Ben-Hur.
