Netflix has set the global premiere date for A Widow’s Game, a new Spanish drama based on real events.

A Widow’s Game (La viuda negra) is based on a case known as “the black widow of Patraix.”
In August 2017, the body of a man, stabbed seven times, is found in a parking lot in Valencia. Everything seemingly points to a crime of passion, so the homicide squad of the city’s police, led by a veteran detective, begin investigating. Their inquiries soon lead them to a suspect that no one expected: Maje, the sweet and serene young widow, who had been married to the victim for less than a year.
A Widow’s Game, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Friday, May 30, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
The film stars Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth, High Seas) as María Jesús Moreno Cantó, aka Maje; Carmen Machi (Honeymoon with My Mother, Criminal) as Eva, the police inspector; and Tristán Ulloa (The Asunta Case, Berlin) as Salva.
The cast also includes Joel Sánchez (Berlin), Álex Gadea (1992), Pablo Molinero (You Would Do It Too), Pepe Ocio (Elite), Ramón Ródenas (Asteroid City), Amparo Fernández (I Know Who You Are), and Miquel Mars (Boundless), amongst others.
Produced by Bambú Producciones (Cocaine Coast, The Alcàsser Murders) and written by the same writers as The Asunta Case, the film is directed by Carlos Sedes (The Lady’s Companion) and executive produced by Ramón Campos.
