Netflix has announced the start of production of Un fantasma en la batalla, a new political thriller film from Spain.
Grounded in the historical, political, and social context of Spain in the 1990s and 2000s, political thriller Un fantasma en la batalla (whose literal translation is “a ghost in battle”) is inspired by the lives and experiences of certain members of the Guardia Civil (a national police force in Spain) directly involved in the fight against terrorism.
The film tells the story of Amaia, a young civil guard who spends more than a decade working as an undercover agent within the Basque separatist group ETA, with the aim of locating the organization’s hideouts in the South of France.
Starring in the thriller are Susana Abaitua (Patria), Andrés Gertrúdix (Below Zero), Iraia Elias (Intimacy), Raúl Arévalo (Velvet), and Ariadna Gil (Pan’s Labyrinth).
Agustín Díaz Yanes (Walking Vengeance, Captain Alatriste: The Spanish Musketeer) is the director, and the Spanish producing team behind double Oscar® nominee Society of the Snow — Belén Atienza (Society of the Snow), Sandra Hermida (Society of the Snow), and J.A. Bayona — are the producers.
Stay tuned for updates.
