People of the North (Norway)
Produced by Tellus Works Television AS, the production company behind the popular cooking series New Scandinavian Cooking, People of the North is a brand new travel series that takes viewers to spectacular places across the northern points of Scandinavia. Presenting the series are Norwegian television personality Arne Hjeltnes, Swedish chef Frida Ronge, and Norwegian Stig Bareksten, an award-winning distiller.
During the show’s ten half-hour episodes, the three hosts venture to faraway places in northern Norway and the Faroe Islands, and showcase the Nordic way of life in these remote regions — all while experiencing the food, culture, land, traditions, and people of these isolated yet fascinating parts of the world.

War Sailor (Krigsseileren) (Norway)
Based on true stories of Norwegian merchant sailors and their families during and after World War II, this period drama follows three people. Two are Alfred Garnes (Kristoffer Joner, The Wave, Mission: Impossible – Fallout) and his friend, Sigbjørn “Wally” Kvalen (Pal Sverre Hagen, Exit, Furia), civilians working on a merchant ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean when World War II breaks out. Unarmed, they struggle for survival amidst violence and death and German submarines that can attack the merchant vessels at any moment. The war sailors have one goal: to survive and return home.
The third person is Alfred’s wife, Cecilia (Ine Marie Wilmann, Troll, Furia). Now raising three children on her own in Bergen, she struggles through the war alone, not knowing whether she will ever see Alfred again. When British aircraft attempt to bomb the German submarine bunker in Bergen, they instead hit the primary school at Laksevåg and civilian homes at Nøstet, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of civilians. When news of this reaches Alfred and Wally in Canada, they wonder if they have anything left at home to return to.

Homicide Hills: Season 1 (Mord mit Aussicht) (Germany)
In this long-running crime comedy series, Caroline Peters (Tatort, Wilsberg) stars as Detective Sophie Haas, a big-city cop who is “promoted” out of her role in Cologne and transferred to Hengasch, a (fictional) rural town in the Eifel mountains. The police department has two officers — Sergeant Dietmar Schäffer (Bjarne Mädel, Crime Scene Cleaner, Enemies) and Officer Barbel Schmied (Meike Droste, Tatort: Cologne, A Murder of Crows) — who have more time on their hands than cases to solve. Haas, disappointed at the lack of murders and open cases, aims to change this, opting to pursue every tiny lead for every small infraction while dragging her officers and occasionally the whole town along with her.
When for-real crimes and murders actually happen, this is when Haas is at her best — and her happiest! Her officers seem happier, too, since they can do some real police work, even if Haas has to show them how. Elsewhere in Hengasch, Dietmar’s wife Heike (Petra Kleinert, Tatort: Cologne), wears her jealousy on her gossipy sleeve, and Haas’s predecessor, Hans Zielonka (Michael Hanemann, Inspector Dupin), wishes he were still in charge.

The Good Mothers (Italy-UK)
Based on The Good Mothers: The True Story of the Women Who Took On the World’s Most Powerful Mafia, Alex Perry’s Edgar® Award-nominated nonfiction crime book, this 2010-set drama tells the shocking true story of three women who were born into the ‘Ndrangheta, the most deadly and wealthy of the Italian Mafia clans, and how they work with a gutsy female prosecutor to bring it down from the inside.
Anna Colace (Barbara Chichiarelli, Suburra: Blood on Rome) is a bright, young, anti-mafia public prosecutor who’s just arrived in Calabria from Milan. It is she who develops a new, albeit risky, strategy to topple the ‘Ndrangheta clans: focus on the women. Her experience with the three women begins with the disappearance of Lea Garofalo (Micaela Ramazzotti, 7 Women and a Murder), who had agreed to be a witness against her husband, Carlo Cosco (Francesco Colella, Christian), to escape his control and help her daughter, Denise (Gaia Girace, My Brilliant Friend), to grow up away from their toxic environment.
Colace’s investigation also leads her to Giuseppina Pesce (Valentina Bellè, Medici) and Concetta Cacciola (Simona Distefano, Vatican Girl: The Disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi) — two very different women who share an oppressive and suffocating existence under the ‘Ndrangheta, as well as the desire and drive to escape in order to give themselves and their children a better future, as Lea had tried to do.
The winner of the first-ever Berlinale Series Award at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival in 2023, The Good Mothers, a Hulu Original, premieres in the US in its six-episode entirety on Wednesday, April 5, exclusively on Hulu. The Pope: Answers (Spain)
Filmed in Rome, this documentary special focuses on the meeting between Pope Francis, the current head of the Catholic Church, and ten Spanish-speaking young people of different ages and backgrounds and with different lives and experiences. During their conversation, the Pope speaks unreservedly as the young adults ask questions about a wide range of topics that concern their generation, including: feminism, the role of women in the Church, abortion, loss of faith, the migration crisis, homosexuality, LGBTQI+ rights, abuse within the Church, racism, and mental health.

The Boarding School: Las Cumbres: Season 3 (El Internado: Las Cumbres) (Spain)
Opening three months after the events in the Season 2 finale, the third and final season of this young adult mystery-crime thriller series sees Amaia (Asia Ortega, Sky High: The Series) convinced that the mysteries of the boarding school are not solved. Determined to get to the bottom of things once and for all, she enlists the help of Zoe, a new student from a foster home where they no longer know what to do with her.
From the off, Zoe connects with the group, who soon find themselves embroiled in disappearances and horrific crimes within the walls of the monastery — caught in a life-or-death struggle that will become a real acid test for their friendship. Meanwhile, Alicia/Inés (Claudia Riera, Vis a Vis: The Oasis) and León (Joel Bosqued, The Innocence) are in a race against time to escape death and their memory loss.

Oh Belinda (Aaahh Belinda) (Türkiye)
In this modern adaptation of Atıf Yılmaz’s 1986 same-titled movie, a young actress, while rehearsing a TV commercial for a shampoo named Belinda, finds that her life has completely changed in a madcap way: All of the elements in the script have become real, and she has been transported to her character’s world — where she has become the character in the commercial, despite her efforts to prove otherwise.

The Silence of Water: Season 2 (Il silenzio dell’acqua) (Italy)
Season 2 of this mystery-crime drama sees detectives Luisa Ferrari (Ambra Angiolini, The Ignorant Angels) and Andrea Baldini (Giorgio Pasotti, The Swan Company) delving into the double murder of a uoung girl’s mother and brother. While her father is initially suspected, the detectives aren’t convinced he killed them. Meanwhile, Andrea must deal with Elio Moras (Srefano Pesce, Inspector Coliandro), the ex of his partner, Roberta (Camilla Filippi, The Trial), and biological father of her son, Matteo (Riccardo Maria Manera, Thou Shalt Not Kill), who’s returned after eighteen years…

Thicker Than Water (Jusqu’ici tout va bien) (France)
This crime thriller stars Nawell Madani (C’est tout pour moi) as Fara, an up-and-coming TV journalist who, in protecting her brother from the law, inadvertently gets her family entangled with a drug lord. In order to prevent the situation from worsening, Fara and her sisters must join together and use every means necessary to get their hands on two million euros to pay back the drug lord before the end of Ramadan. Or else.

Transatlantic (Germany-UK)
Based on Julie Orringer’s novel The Flight Portfolio, and set in Marseille between 1940 and 1941, this multilingual historical drama follows Harvard-educated journalist Varian Fry (Cory Michael Smith, Gotham) and other like-minded individuals in the French port city as they form and run the Emergency Rescue Committee — risking their lives to help more than 2,000 refugees escape occupied France, including many artists on the Nazis’ most-wanted list. This international gang of young superheroes and their famous charges occupy a villa at the edge of the city, where the threat of mortal danger gives way to unexpected collaborations and intense love affairs.

Agent Hamilton: Season 2 (Sweden)
Consisting of four two-part stories, Season 2 of this spy thriller, inspired by Jan Guillou‘s best-selling series of “Coq Rouge/Carl Hamilton” novels, brings Jakob Oftebro (Black Crab, Monster, 1864) back to our screens as the CIA- and Navy SEALs-trained Swedish superspy. In the first story, Hamilton goes to France to investigate the murder of a Swedish attack diver during a top-secret NATO operation in the Mediterranean. His next mission is in Kiruna, the northernmost city in Sweden, after a truck driver hauling mysterious cargo is stopped at a customs checkpoint and then killed in a shoot-out.
The third story sees Hamilton head to Belarus on a rescue mission after a Swedish-Chinese scientist is kidnapped, followed by the abduction of someone close to Hamilton. And in the final story, Hamilton is sent to Warsaw to protect a Swedish accountant who’s been leaking information, which leads to Hamilton discovering a conspiracy.

Operation: Nation (Kryptonim: Polska) (Poland)
In this comedy-drama, Staszek (Maciej Musiałowski, The Hater) is a member of a radical nationalist youth group in Warsaw. He isn’t a radical, but still participates in their activities. During one event he meets and becomes enchanted with Pola (Magdalena Maścianica, Sexify), a left-wing activist who recently broke up with her boyfriend. Their forbidden Romeo-and-Juliet-esque romance leads to a series of surprising events.

Cell 8 (Sweden)
Based on Roslund & Hellström’s best-selling novel Cell 8, Book 3 in their “DCI Ewert Grens” series of crime novels, this crime thriller series follows detectives Mariana Hermansson (Mimosa Willamo, Box 21, Deadwind) and Ewert Grens (Leonard Terfelt, Box 21, Young Royals), whose investigation into an assault on a ferry sees Hermansson entangled with the assailant — a man supposedly dead for ten years. The case is also connected to a grieving parent in America who is consumed by the quest to avenge the murder of his daughter.

Rough Cut (Dal Y Mellt) (Wales)
Set in contemporary Wales, this drama follows Carbo (Gwïon Morris Jones, Itopia), a lad who seems to be followed by bad luck. To wit: Old farmer Gronw (Dyfan Roberts, The Cormorant) has asked garage boss Mici Finn (Mark Lewis Jones, Keeping Faith) and Les Moore (Graham Land) to find Carbo, not just because he’s an excellent mechanic and car thief, but because he’s also a first-class lock picker. As Carbo weaves his way in and out of one situation after another, he remains hellbent on surviving to see another day as he finds himself an unwitting part of a huge diamond heist.

Greek Salad (Salade grecque) (France)
Twenty years after the release of his multi-award-winning film L’auberge espagnole (The Spanish Apartment), Cédric Klapisch brings viewers this comedy-drama series that sees Romain Duris (Vernon Subutex), Cécile de France (The New Pope), Kevin Bishop (Agatha Raisin), and Kelly Reilly (Yellowstone) all reprising their roles from the film.
The series follows Xavier (Duris) and Wendy’s (Reilly) children, 26-year-old Tom (Aliocha Schneider, Germinal) and 22-year-old Mia (Megan Northam, Notre-Dame). They meet up in Athens after they inherit a building from their late grandfather. Mia claims to be studying at uni, but Tom, who’d been training at a startup in New York, learns she’s an activist who’s been lying to the family. Their differences of opinion and ways of life make sharing the inheritance complicated, but through living in a collective environment with young people from all over Europe, as their parents did two decades earlier, Tom and Mia come together.

Phenomena (Fenómenas) (Spain)
Inspired by the real-life Hepta Group, which conducts paranormal investigations in Spain, this film follows three members of the group — Sagrario (Belén Rueda, The Embassy), Gloria (Toni Acosta, Dangerous Moms), and Paz (Gracia Olayo, (The Neighbor) — who are put to the test when their leader, Father Pilón (Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, García!), disappears.

Candice Renoir: Season 6 (France)
This popular and long-running detective drama returns to the US with ten more episodes starring Cécile Bois (Gloria) as the titular investigator. Following on from the events in Season 5, Season 6 sees Candice and her team investigating the murder of an internet diet and fitness trainer, a hostage situation at a school, and the disappearance of a family, amongst other crimes. While family life with her children seems to be going well, with other things, not so much. To wit: Candice is the prime suspect in a murder. DNA: Season 2 (Denmark)
Set in a world ruled by criminal networks across Europe, the new season of this mystery-crime drama sees police commissioner Rolf Larsen (Anders W. Berthelesen, The Killing) on a case involving the modern slave trade and human organs for sale on the black market, following the discovery of nineteen young Vietnamese being held captive.

Following on from the events in Season 1, the new season of this contemporary drama finds the four friends — Jazz (Jeanne Goursaud, Barbarians), Fanta (Jobel Mokonzi, Druck), Hajra (Soma Pysall, Buba), and Rasaq (Roxana Samadi, Cologne P.D.) — facing new challenges, but at least they have each other and each other’s back.

Starring Vanessa Scalera (Anti-Mafia Squad) as the incorruptible and resourceful deputy prosecutor Immacolata “Imma” Tataranni, the eight new episodes will see Imma do what she does best: crack cases with attitude to spare in Matera, Italy.

Chokehold (Boga Boga) (Türkiye)
Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ (The Festival of Troubadours) and Funda Eryiğit (The Protector) star in this thriller as a couple from Istanbul who, to evade a scandal, start over in a town on the Aegean coast. But they soon discover that the locals are determined to get rid of them.

Inspector Rex: Season 4 (Kommissar Rex) (Austria-Germany)
This popular light police drama series, which has spawned Canadian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Slovak remakes, returns with another season that follows police dog Rex as he investigates crimes and solves mysteries with his human partner on the streets of Vienna. Murderous Memories (France)
This trilogy of murder mystery telefilms, which mixes historical crimes with modern-day forensics, stars Gaëlle Bona (Mongeville, Murder in Rocamadour) and David Kammenos (Murder in Orleans, Braquo), along with Mhamed Arezki (Candice Renoir). In “The Mists of Memory” (“Les brumes du souvenir“), the mayor of a ghost town in Verdun has been found murdered. Leading the investigation is Captain Clara Merisi (Gaëlle Bona) of the French judicial police in Nancy, who’s aided by her assistant, Guillaume Barot (Mhamed Arezki), the local gendarmerie, and François Gilbert (David Kammenos), a forensic anthropologist and historian who also serves as the medical examiner for the area. A few days earlier, François had found nearby the body of a woman who went missing thirty years ago. Coincidence?
In “The Walls of Remembrance” (“Les murs du souvenir“), Clara is called to a building in Colmar, where renovations unearthed the walled-up mummy of a man dressed in a Nazi uniform. François confirms the man was murdered seventy years earlier, but how did the body get inside the building? And in “The Waves of Memory” (“Les ondes du souvenir“), two boys exploring an abandoned steel factory discover a corpse. The victim, who died forty years ago, was a former steelworker, union activist, and volunteer for a pirate radio station that fought against factory closures. More assassinations followed…

R.S.V.P. (Tack för senast!) (Sweden)
Told through nine different parties and celebrations, this ensemble-cast film follows a close group of friends over the course of about three years. As they all long for big love and oodles of happiness, Klara (Lisa Carlehed, The Emigrants), a 37-year-old nurse, finds herself the single one amongst them. Yet one questions applies to all of the friends: Does the perfect relationship exist, or is it a myth?

Kiss, Kiss! (Gorzko, gorzko!) (Poland)
Mateusz Kościukiewicz (The Informer) stars in this romantic comedy as Tomek, an adman and flirt who’s convinced he can charm any woman. After he loses everything, he moves in with his brother, Janek (Rafał Zawierucha, The Getaway King), a reclusive computer geek who’s in love with florist Klara (Agnieszka Więdłocha, Krime Story). Tomek offers to help his bro win Klara if Janek finds him an awesome match, which he does, except Ola (Zofia Domalik, Bartkowiak) is set to marry the son of the Minister of Justice (Edyta Olszówka, 1983) in two weeks. So Tomek schemes his way into the Polish wedding of the decade in order to win Ola’s heart. What could possibly go wrong?

The Nurse (Sygeplejersken) (Denmark)
Based on Kristian Corfixen’s award-winning nonfiction book The Nurse: The True Story Behind One of Scandinavia’s Most Notorious Criminal Trials, this true-crime drama tells the true story of the Danish nurse who was convicted of the attempted manslaughter of four patients. At Nykøbing Falster Hospital in the outskirts of Denmark, Pernille Kurzmann (Fanny Bernth, Ride Upon the Storm, The New Nurses) recently started working as a nurse and has already hit it off with Christina Aistrup Hansen (Josephine Park, Baby Fever, Darkness: Those Who Kill), a charming and charismatic nurse. But as Pernille gets to know her way around the hospital, she starts to see that there might be more to Christina than meets the eye. Set in Malaga, this crime thriller opens with the disappearance of Noelia Castañeda, the daughter businessman Germán Castañeda (Antonio Gil, Alba). Assigned to the case are two police officers haunted by their past: Dario (Salva Reina, If Only), a corrupt cop who knows the streets of Malaga inside out, and Blanca (Maggie Civantos, Cable Girls), an elite agent who’s returned to Malaga after a few years in Madrid. Meanwhile, a new drug called “gold” has hit the streets, sparking a war between the gangs that run the drug trade in the city.

Amsterdam Vice (Baantjer het begin) (Netherlands)
Based on the novels by A.C. Baantjer, this crime thriller film is actually a part of the terrific TV series of the same name, which tells the origin story of Dutch police detective Jurre de Cock, played in the original Baantjer Mysteries series by Piet Römer and in the prequel film and series by Waldemar Torenstra (Divorce).
Set in 1980, the film follows Jurre de Cock as he starts his new job at the Warmoesstraat police station, the roughest police department in Amsterdam, where he’s paired with seasoned police officer Tonnie Montijn (Tygo Gernandt, The Last Kingdom). As they investigate a murder that could lead to an attack during the coronation of Princess Beatrix, Jurre and Tonnie face numerous challenges, including multiple suspects and motives and possible leaks from the police station — all of which makes it more difficult for them to find the real culprit. With the coronation fast approaching and the pressure mounting, the two detectives are in a race against time to prevent a major tragedy from happening.

Loft (Netherlands)
In this award-winning remake of the Belgian film of the same name, five married friends, all men, agree to share a luxurious loft for their extramarital affairs. The arrangement works well until the body of a young woman is found in the apartment. None of the men knows who she is, but their world is turned upside down as they try to find out what happened. As it turns out, the dead woman was acquainted with one of the men, leading the men to suspect each other. They must also decide on whether they will call the police or dump the body. With their friendships being sorely tested, and their own secrets being revealed., it becomes clear that these friends know much less about each other than they thought.

Set in Salzburg, this crime drama sees the town rocked by a series of arson attacks over the course of several months, committed by a shadowy figure who is yet to be caught. When a charred corpse is found in the rubble of a burned-out abandoned house, State Criminal Police detective Martin Merana (Manuel Rubey, Corsage) and local police officer Franziska Heilmayr (Stefanie Reinsperger, How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)) are tasked with solving the case and catching the arsonist/killer before they strike again. Bridgend (Denmark)
Based on real events, this English-language drama, winner of the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival Jury Award, follows teenager Sara (Hannah Murray, Game of Thrones), who moves with her police officer father, Dave (Steven Waddington, Jamestown), to a small village in Bridgend County in South Wales. While Dave investigates a spate of suicides amongst the local young people, Sara falls in love with Jamie (Josh O’Connor, The Crown, The Durrells in Corfu), the vicar’s son — a relationship with potentially fatal consequences.

As in Heaven (Du som er i himlen) (Denmark)
Based on the novel by Marie Bregendahl, this multi-award-winning film, set on a farm at the end of the 19th century, centers on 14-year-old Lise (Flora Ofelia Hofmann Lindahl, Cry Wolf), the eldest amongst her siblings and the first in the family to go to school. Lise is full of hope in the future and faith in life, but when her mother goes into labor, and it becomes clear that something is wrong, Lise must prepare herself for the possibility that she will soon become the woman of the house and that her life will change forever.

Meanwhile, Massimo (Francesco Scianna, The Trial), the reluctant Mafioso, would like to leave the Cosa Nostra, as the specter of a violent mafia war hangs over the Sicilian capital.

Transfer (Transferts) (France-Belgium)
This sci-fi crime thriller stars Arieh Worthalter (Girl) as Florian, a cabinetmaker who has an accident while out boating with his family. After being in a coma for five years, Florian wakes up — but in the body of Sylvain, a police captain. This miraculous ability to transfer one person’s spirit into the body of another person had been legal, but has since been banned, which then spawned a new kind of human trafficking. So it’s ironic that Florian/Sylvain is a cop who leads a special task force in the crackdown of illegal transfers.
