Deadwind: Season 2 (Karppi) (Finland)
The new season of this dark and gritty mystery-crime drama opens with Detective Sofia Karppi (Pihla Viitala, Arctic Circle) on holiday and turning over a case involving two murder victims, one from Helsinki, the other from Tallinn, to Detective Sakari Nurmi (Lauri Tilkanen, Hooked), who’s back on the homicide squad. But after the killer strikes again and the victim is someone Sofia knows, she joins the case as the lead investigator.
Deadwind: Season 2, a Netflix Original series, premieres in the US on Wednesday, July 1, exclusively on Netflix.
Under the Riccione Sun (Sotto il sole di Riccione) (Italy)
While vacationing on the beaches of Riccione, a group of teens become friends and help each other manage romantic relationships and summer crushes.

Blinded (Fartblinda) (Sweden)
Based on the novel by Carolina Neurath, this financial thriller follows financial journalist Bea Farkas (Julia Ragnarsson, Midsommar, Spring Tide, Bron/Broen), who is having a secret affair with bank director Peder Rooth (Matias Varela, Narcos, The Fat and the Angry, Arne Dahl). Bea knows it’s unprofessional — it’s her job to investigate people like him — but she’s in love and can’t bring herself to end their relationship. But when she’s given the assignment to monitor the bank’s quarterly report, she soon senses that Peder is hiding something.
The drama costars Claes Månsson (Welcome to Sweden), Julia Dufvenius (Honour), Edvin Endre (Vikings), Oskar Thunberg (Jordskott), Peter Eggers (Anno 1790), Mats Blomgren (Blue Eyes), Johannes Kuhnke (The Rain), and Claes Ljungmark (Follow the Money).

Cable Girls: Season 5, Part 2 (Final) (Las chicas del cable) (Spain)
Opening seven months after the events in Season 5, Part 1, the final episodes find Spain under the rule of a dictator. Lidia (Blanca Suárez, The Boat) suffers the revenge of Doña Carmen (Concha Velasco, Grand Hotel) on the correction center, while Francisco (Yon González, The Boarding School) and her friends desperately look for her.
Costarring Nadia de Santiago (The Ministry of Time), Ana Polvorosa (Aida), Ana Fernández (The Protected), Denisse Peña (The Boarding School), and Nico Romero (Bandolera), Cable Girls: Season 5, Part 2, a Netflix Original series, premieres globally on Friday, July 3, exclusively on Netflix.
Imperial (Italy)
Set in 1905, this Italian version of the hit Spanish period mystery drama Grand Hotel opens with the young and handsome Pietro Neri (Eugenio Franceschini, Back Home) arriving at the Imperial, a luxury hotel in the Italian Alps. Posing as a new waiter, he’s here to find out what happened to his sister Caterina (Federica De Cola, Palermo Connection), who also worked at the hotel but has disappeared.
On one of Pietro’s first days at the Imperial, he crosses paths with the beautiful Adele Alibrandi (Valentina Bellè, Medici), the aristocratic daughter of the hotel’s owner, Donna Vittoria Alibrandi (Marion Mitterhammer, Homicide Unit Istanbul) — a woman with her own secrets, lies, and crimes who will stop at nothing to keep them hidden. Despite the difference in class, Pietro and Adele fall in love and start a tumultuous affair, complicating everything for them. All the while Pietro is still trying to discover the truth about Caterina’s mysterious disappearance.

The Protector: Season 4 (Turkey)
In the final season of this fantasy drama, the Vizier and the Immortals rule over modern Istanbul, Hakan (Çagatay Ulusoy, Içerde) travels to the past to stop a war, and Zeynep (Hazar Ergüçlü, The Mallorca Files) undergoes a powerful transformation.
The Protector: Season 4, a Netflix Original series, premieres globally on Thursday, July 9, exclusively on Netflix.
Salamander: Season 2 (Belgium)
Filip Peeters (Occupied, Force, The Missing) is back as Chief Inspector Paul Gerardi, who once again becomes a target after he begins investigating the murder of a political refugee in Brussels. The victim had fled Kitangi, a former Belgian colony in Africa, and as Gerardi delves deeper into the case, he discovers the murder is linked to an international conspiracy involving blood diamonds.
Returning cast members include Violet Braeckman (Over Water), Tine Reymer (Code 37), Koen van Impe (13 Commandments), and Wim Opbrouck (Public Enemy). New cast members include Vera Van Dooren (Professor T), Michael Vergauwen (Professor T), Peter Van De Velde (13 Commandments), and Herbert Flack (The Out-Laws).

The Hunter (Il cacciatore) (Italy)
Based on real events, as detailed in the autobiographical book Cacciatore di mafiosi by anti-mafia prosecutor Alfonso Sabella, this crime drama set in the 1990s follows Saverio Barone (Francesco Montanari, Romanzo Criminale), a young and ambitious prosecutor who, after blowing the whistle on his corrupt boss and then gaining an appointment to Palermo’s anti-mafia unit, goes after the two rivaling mafia bosses who have been causing the deaths of criminals and the innocent alike for years.
Barone is uniquely qualified for the job, possessing a distinct set of skills that will make him go down in history as ‘the Hunter.’ And thanks to a succession of brilliant hunches, spectacular raids, and front-page arrests, 300 Mafiosi get taken into custody.
The Hunter premieres in the US on Friday, July 10, exclusively on the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel and the Walter Presents digital channels.
The Twelve (De Twaalf) (Belgium)
This drama thriller follows the murder trial of a respected headmistress accused of killing her daughter and her best friend, and focuses on how the case affects the lives of the twelve jurors who are tasked with deciding the defendant’s fate.
Featuring Maaike Neuville (The Day), Charlotte De Bruyne (Professor T), Tom Vermeir (The Team), and Peter Gorissen (Thieves of the Wood), The Twelve, a Netflix Original series, premieres in the US on Friday, July 10, exclusively on Netflix. (You can add it to your queue now.)
Foodie Love (Spain)
This eight-part drama series follows two thirty-somethings after they meet on a foodie mobile dating app. They embark on a gastronomic journey, learning about each other through the mediums of jamón, ramen, and fine dining from around the world.
Yet while she (Laia Costa, Victoria, No me quites), an intelligent book editor who is somewhat suspicious of relationships, and he (Guillermo Pfening, The German Doctor, Nobody’s Watching), a cultured, successful mathematician who is at times a little naive, bond over a shared devotion to Japanese yuzu and a distaste for foodie pretension, their insecurities and doubts, fueled by the scars of their previous relationships, may prevent them from tasting true love.
Filmed on location in Spain, Italy, France, and Japan, Foodie Love premieres in the US with all eight episodes on Monday, July 13, exclusively on HBO GO, HBO NOW, and HBO via HBO Max and other partners’ platforms, including HBO on Amazon Channels.
Bulletproof Heart: Season 3 (Una pallottola nel cuore) (Italy)
Gigi Proietti (La Tosca) returns as investigative journalist Bruno Palmieri in the new six-episode season (up from four) of this delightful dramedy cozy mystery series, one of my favorite Euro TV premieres of 2017.
The new season opens five years after the Season 2 finale, and finds Bruno overjoyed that his daughter Maddalena (Francesca Inaudi, The Hunter) and grandson Michele (Lorenzo Zurzolo, Baby) are back in Rome. What’s more, Maddalena has been promoted to Deputy Director of Il Messaggero, the newspaper where Bruno works. But their glee soon ends because her ex, Vice Commissioner Enrico Vella, is found dead under mysterious circumstances — prompting Bruno to investigate.

We Are One (On est ensemble) (France)
This feature-length documentary, which centers on activists fighting injustice and driving social change around the world, follows their participation in the music video “Solidarité.”

When the Dust Settles (Når støvet har lagt sig) (Denmark)
This multi-strand drama follows the stories of eight strangers whose lives and fates intertwine after a terrorist attack in Copenhagen. Over the course of three weeks — days prior to and following the attack — their lives change dramatically, and they find themselves questioning the way they live and the choices they have made.
The cast includes Karen-Lise Mynster (The Eagle), Jacob Lohmann (Norskov), Henning Jensen (The Killing), Peter Christoffersen (The Bridge), Malin Crépin (Annika Bengtzon), Arian Kashef (DNA), Hadi Ka-Koush (Follow the Money), Lotte Andersen (The Spider), Marina Bouras (The Eagle), and Magnus Krepper (Before We Die).

The Inner Circle (Den inre cirkeln) (Sweden)
Playing out over the course of several days, this thriller centers on enterprise minister David Ehrling (Niklas Engdahl, Bonus Family), who is in the running to become the next prime minister. Meanwhile, his press officer, Lena Nilsdotter (Nanna Blondell, Twin), works to keep his past misdemeanors from prying journalists. Adding to David’s troubles is the necessity of juggling the demands of his job with his family life, which is under threat of falling apart.
Costarring Olle Sarri (We Got This), Melinda Kinnaman (Modus), and Dag Malmberg (The Bridge/Bron/Broen), The Inner Circle premieres in the US on Friday, July 17, exclusively on the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel and the Walter Presents digital channels.
How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast): Season 2 (Germany)
After a bumpy start to their business, high-schooler Moritz Zimmermann (Maximilian Mundt, Dunkelstadt) and the MyDrugs crew ramp up their hustle, and the online drug shop gets more successful as it also gets more dangerous.
Costars include Danilo Kamper (The Peppercorns), Damian Hardung (The Name of the Rose), and Lena Klenke (8 Days), with Lena Urzendowsky (Dark) joining the cast.

Norsemen: Season 3 (Vikingane) (Norway)
The new season of this Vikings comedy/spoof is a prequel that goes back in time to tell the story that led to the events in Season 1.
Joining regular cast members Henrik Mestad (Occupied), Marian Saastad Ottesen (Lilyhammer), and Jon Øigarden (Mammon) are Jakob Oftebro (Agent Hamilton), Thorbjørn Harr (Vikings), Pia Tjelta (State of Happiness), Jan Sælid (Aber Bergen), Per Christian Eliefsen (Elling), and Ellen Horn (Norwegian Cozy).

Signs (Znaki) (Poland)
Set in the Owl Mountains, this crime thriller follows the investigation into the murder of a young woman, which shows similarities to a decade-old cold case. In order to get to the truth, Commissioner Trela (Andrzej Konopka, The Border), the new police commander, must break the town’s conspiracy of silence.

Callboys: Season 2 (Belgium)
The callboys — Devon (Matteo Simoni, Thieves of the Wood), now Jeremy (Rik Verheye, Thieves of the Wood), Wesley (Stef Aerts, Cordon), and Randy (Bart Hollanders, Professor T) — are back, and their sex work and misadventures are, once again, never a dull moment.

¡A cantar! (Sing On! Spain) (Spain)
Sing On! is a new unscripted musical competition series in which six contestants test their skills in singing popular songs. The prize money builds — up to €30,000 — as those who prove they’re in tune move on to each successive phase of the competition.

Offering to the Storm (Ofrenda a la tormenta) (Spain)
Based on the novels in Dolores Redondo‘s “Baztán Trilogy,” this crime thriller marks the film trilogy’s final installment (after The Invisible Guardian and The Legacy of the Bones). In it Marta Etura returns as Inspector Amaia Salazar, whose latest case involves several suspicious infant deaths and horrific rituals. Meanwhile, people around her risk grave danger.

Rebecka Martinsson: Series 2 (Sweden)
Following the events in Series 1, the new season of this Nordic noir crime drama finds Rebecka (now played by Sascha Zacharias of Beck, Modus) moving into her grandmother’s house in the village of Kurravaara in Kiruna instead of returning to Stockholm. But questions about her dark past and troubled childhood continue to occupy Rebecka’s mind, and her anxieties about truly fitting in and whether she made the right choice in returning to her roots have grown worse.
Meanwhile, Rebecka uses her skills as a prosecutor in new cases, which are more challenging than ever before. They include revenge attacks in the Sami village, the discovery of a missing woman’s body after a hotel demolition, a new influx of hard drugs amongst the local teenagers, and the deaths of a woman and baby found in a snow-covered car.
Featuring original stories inspired by characters from Åsa Larsson‘s “Rebecka Martinsson” crime novel series, the new season features returning cast members Lars Lind (Arne Dahl), Thomas Oredsson (Crimes of Passion), Eva Melander (Modus), Jakob Öhrman (The Hunters), Gunilla Röör (The Simple Heist), Ville Virtanen (Bordertown), Ardalan Esmaili (Greyzone), Samuel Fröler (Before We Die), and Jakob Hultcrantz Hansson (Midnight Sun).

Captain Marleau: Season 2 (Capitaine Marleau) (France)
Corinne Masiero (Spiral, The Churchmen, Hard) returns in the new season of this darkly humorous mystery series as the eponymous eccentric cop who nabs perpetrators the way a hunter bags prey — by surprise.

Idiomatic: Season 2 (Jättekiva) (Finland)
The new season of this excellent romantic comedy series finds Laplander Aino (Anna Paavilainen, Two Bodies on a Beach) and her bilingual Finn-Swede partner Micke (Elmer Bäck, Roba) contemplating starting a family after she hears that a friend is pregnant. But more questions than answers arise for this thirty-something couple — Are they ready to become parents? Is their relationship ready for a new family member? And is now the right time to have a baby, especially when their careers are at a critical juncture?
Plus, they’re still living in Micke’s parents’ apartment (albeit in a posh building in a swanky part of Helsinki) and still sharing the place with Aino’s unemployed brother, Jussi (Mikko Penttilä, Putous), who’s still trying to figure out what to do with his life…

Model Greta Ferro makes her screen debut in this period drama, which centers on the birth of Italian fashion in the 1970s. The story follows Irene (Ferro), a daughter of Southern Italian immigrants, who gets a job at fashion magazine Appeal to pay for college and is quickly moved into a key position.
Milan’s fashion industry is evolving, with young designers taking their first steps onto the international market and the fashion world beginning to shift from French haute couture to Italian prêt-a-porter. So too is the world at large in the ’70s — from women’s lib and free love, to student protests and social and political upheaval. And like both, Irene’s professional and personal lives undergo radical changes.
Costars include Margherita Buy (Mia madre), Valentina Carnelutti (Anti-Mafia Squad), Sergio Albelli (The Miracle), Giuseppe Cederna (1992), Marco Bocci (Mafia Undercover), Maurizio Lastrico (Don Matteo), and Raoul Bova (Under the Tuscan Sun).

Hide and Seek (Pryatki) (Ukraine)
In this crime thriller, a father and daughter in a small industrial town love playing hide and seek, but during one of their usual playdates, the girl mysteriously disappears and is nowhere to be found. Later a video is released that shows her holding a sign with an unusual set of numbers, but no one knows what they mean. She becomes the first of several children to disappear without a trace.
Taking on this complex case are detectives Varta Naumova (newcomer Yuliya Abdel Fattakh) and Maksim Shumov (Vyacheslav Dovzhenko, Under Military Law), who are total opposites of each other but have in common the experience of trauma. Understandably, this case affects Varta and Maksim on a deep level, and they become personally vested in finding the children and apprehending the kidnapper while confronting their pasts.

Vis a vis: El Oasis (Locked Up) (Spain)
The fifth season of this drama thriller finds Zulema (Najwa Nimri, Money Heist) and Macarena (Maggie Civantos, Cable Girls), after a few years of robbing jewelers, banks and casinos, planning a final heist worth millions before going their separate ways. They recruit Goya (Itziar Castro, Vis a vis), Mónica (Lisi Linder, Mar de plástico), Triana (Claudia Riera, The Hockey Girls), and ‘La Flaca’ (Isabel Naveira, Cocaine Coast) for the job, which will take place at a narco family wedding, then arrange to meet at the Oasis Hotel to split the loot. But nothing turns out to be as perfect as they had planned, and the situation gets more complicated with each moment.

Shattered Destinies (Ukraine)
This drama follows Vika Grigorenko, a talented and ambitious designer who dreams of making it big in the fashion industry. Following the death of her father, she meets the Zborovsky family and begins to collaborate with their fashion house… but fulfilling her dreams comes at a price higher than she expected.
Shattered Destinies begins airing Wednesday, July 29, at 9 PM ET, on Eurochannel.
Motherhood (Devochki moi) (Ukraine)
This dark-humored drama follows the lives of fitness instructor Tatiana and her two daughters and granddaughter, whom Tatiana has been instilling her sense of mistrust about men from her painful experiences and relationships with men and marriage. But then one of them meets Mr. Right and falls in love…
Motherhood begins airing Thursday, July 30, at 9 PM ET, on Eurochannel.

Rocco Schiavone (Italy)
One of my favorite Euro TV premieres of 2018, this mystery-crime thriller is based on Antonio Manzini‘s international best-selling ‘Rocco Schiavone’ novels. The first season opens with the unorthodox, weed smoking, foul-mouthed Inspector Rocco Schiavone (Marco Giallini, Forgive Us Our Debts, Romanzo Criminale), having been transferred from Rome to the small mountain town of Aosta for disciplinary reasons, investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered by a snowplow driver.
Others of his cases in Season 1 include the hanging death of a woman, the death of a businessman while mountaineering, the vehicular deaths of two men transporting stolen goods, the kidnapping of a young woman, and the killing of the wife of Rocco’s close friend, Sebastiano (Francesco Acquaroli, Suburra: Blood on Rome).
