With the exception of Fallet, the Swedish spoof of Nordic noir detective dramas that I found hilarious, comedies from the Nordic countries haven’t pulled me in the same way the mysteries and crime dramas have. However, the trailer for The Storm has me intrigued, so I will give it a go.
The Storm is a dark comedy about what happens when a group of friends gets trapped under the same roof. In this case, the roof is part of the lavish, newly-purchased farm estate in the north of Sweden owned by Filip and his wife. It is here that he has invited his closest friends for dinner to celebrate his 45th birthday.
Except none of them bothered to check the weather forecast, so, unbeknownst to them, a fierce storm is headed their way. When it arrives, the snow traps them on the estate, triggering much drama and angst amongst the hosts and guests.
Polished acts fall. An unfiltered meltdown starts. And panic creeps in. As they all realize the seriousness of the situation, the farm seems to be shrinking, secrets begin spilling out, and unexpected feelings begin bubbling up to the surface in the confined space.
The Storm, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Thursday, October 15, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
