Netflix has set the premiere date for Fantasy Football Ruined Our Lives, a new comedy feature from Italy.
That’s fantasy football, Italian style, meaning “fantasy soccer,” which doesn’t have the same ring.
Anyhoo, Fantasy Football Ruined Our Lives (aka Ogni Maledetto Fantacalcio) revolves around members of the Mai una gioia (literal translation: never a joy) Fantasy Football League, a group of long-time friends who are now suspects in the mysterious disappearance of one of their own: Gianni (Enrico Borello, Supersex), the league’s reigning champ.
On the day of Gianni’s wedding, which happened to be the final, decisive day of the league, as well, he didn’t show up at the altar. Stranger yet, he didn’t submit his lineup.
So now the sharp-witted and sarcastic Judge Giudice (Caterina Guzzanti, Carlo & Malik) is interrogating Simone (Giacomo Ferrara, Suburra: Blood on Rome) about the disappearance of Gianni, who was Simone’s best friend.
The surreal investigation draws in the entire crazy crew, including Andrea (Silvia D’Amico, Christian), the most recent addition to the group, who might be hiding more than one secret.
Then chaos ensues from the group chat, where, amongst the insults, accusations, and incriminating screenshots are a number of death threats.
Could someone have harmed Gianni? It’s possible. Because, sometimes, fantasy football isn’t just a game. It’s a matter of life and bonus points… and revenge.
Fantasy Football Ruined Our Lives, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Wednesday, August 27, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
The cast also includes Francesco Russo (My Brilliant Friend), Antonio Bannò (Christian), and Valeria Angione (Falla girare 2). Appearing as themselves in the film are television presenter Diletta Leotta, sports commentators Pierluigi Pardo and Riccardo Gentile, sports journalist Giuseppe Pastore, retired football referee Daniele Orsato, and professional footballer Leonardo Pavoletti.
