Netflix has set the premiere date for The Mire Millennium, the third and final season of “The Mire” crime thriller trilogy from Poland.
Fans of The Mire (Rojst), rejoice! The period crime thriller trilogy is returning soon with its final season, titled The Mire Millennium.
For folks who aren’t familiar with the series, here’s a recap:
Set in late 1984, the series’ first season, The Mire, sees the murders of a local communist activist and a prostitute in the Gronty forest. Covering the story for the regional newspaper — and launching their own unofficial investigation — are veteran journalist Witold Wanycz (Andrzej Seweryn, The King of Warsaw, Queen) and his new assistant, junior reporter Piotr Zarzycki (Dawid Ogrodnik, Johnny, Broad Peak), who recently moved here from Krakow with his pregnant wife, Teresa (Zofia Wichłacz, 1983, World on Fire).
Season 2, aka The Mire ’97, is set in 1997, when the flood of the century unearths human remains buried in the Gronty forest, as well as the body of a recently-deceased teenage boy. Investigating his death is Sergeant Anna Jass (Magdalena Różczka, 25 Years of Innocence), temporarily seconded from the Warsaw Police, and local cop Senior Sergeant Adam Mika (Łukasz Simlat, Furioza). At the same time, Piotr Zarzycki (Dawid Ogrodnik) returns to the city to be the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, while Witold Wanycz (Andrzej Seweryn) mulls over events he participated in in Gronty 50+ years ago…
And in Season 3, The Mire Millennium, it’s the cusp of the new millennium. As the action unfolds, old cases get a broader context and gain new meaning, and the past catches up with show’s main characters, who will face new crimes, criminal stories, and unusual clues. Ultimately, they will discover where all of the darkness hidden in the Gronty forest was born and where it is heading…
Returning cast members include Andrzej Seweryn, Dawid Ogrodnik, Magdalena Różczka, Łukasz Simlat, Piotr Fronczewski, Janusz Gajos, Agnieszka Żulewska, Michał Pawlik, Ewelina Starejki, Marcin Bosak, Vanessa Aleksander, Wanda Marzec, Mikołaj Chroboczek, and Marianna Gierszewska.
Joining the cast are Filip Pławiak(The Defence), Tomasz Schuchardt (High Water), Konrad Eleryk (Infamy), Tomasz Sapryk (High Water), Wojciech Kalarus (1983), Maria Kania (The Convict), Michalina Łabacz (The Teacher), and Antoni Sałaj (The Woods).
