The Island of 30 Coffins (L’île aux 30 cercueils) (France)
Based on the eponymous novel by “Lupin” creator Maurice LeBlanc, this six-episode mystery-crime drama limited series stars Virginie Ledoyen (Nona and Her Daughters, Just One Look, 8 Women) as Christine, who lost her son at birth 15 years ago. Or so she believes… until she receives a video suggesting he might not be dead. This prompts her to return to the island of Sarek, where she grew up and gave birth. As Christine searches for the truth, a series of deaths stirs up terror and a local prophecy of “the 30 coffins.”

Society of the Snow (La sociedad de la nieve) (Spain-US-Uruguay-Chile)
Based on the nonfiction book Society of the Snow by journalist Pablo Vierci, this historical drama tells the story of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile in 1972. Except the plane catastrophically crashes on a glacier in the heart of the Andes, and only 29 of the 45 passengers survive. Finding themselves stranded in one of the world’s most inaccessible and unforgiving environments on the planet, they are forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.

Astrid: Season 3 (France)
In the eight-episode third season of this hit whodunit series, the fan-favorite crime-fighting, mystery-solving duo of autistic criminal records archivist Astrid Nielsen (Sara Mortensen, Plus belle la vie) and neurotypical police detective Raphaëlle Coste (Lola Dewaere, Fear by the Lake) tackle a new set of tricky investigations. Movie of the Week: Still Lives (Natures mortes) (France)
This Hitchcockian thriller follows Elsa (Virginie Théron, Sous le soileil), a young model who inadvertently takes someone else’s coat when leaving a new fashion designer’s casting call. After finding a roll of film in a pocket, she decides to develop the negatives — and discovers the photos show a woman being murdered. Once Upon a Time in Vigata (C’era una volta Vigata) (Italy)
This anthology series includes three standalone TV movie mysteries from the late, great Andrea Camilleri, the creator of Inspector Montalbano. (Note that the English titles shown below may be different when the episodes arrive on MHz Choice.)
Michele Riondino (The War is Over, The Lions of Sicily) stars in The Knight’s Move (La mossa del cavallo) as Giovanni Bovara, the Tax Ministry’s new chief mills inspector in 1877 Italy. Relocating from Genoa back to his hometown of Vigata in Sicily, Bovara investigates illegal mill-related activities while dealing with the differences between Genoan and Sicilian dialects and cultures. Through his inquiries, he discovers the existence of a clandestine mill and an ingenious tax-avoidance system — and then finds himself entangled in something much greater… and very dangerous.
Francesco Scianna (Mafia Only Kills in Summer, The Trial) stars in The Hunting Season (La stagione della caccia) as Alfonso Fofò La Matina, a pharmacist who opens a new pharmacy in 1880 Vigata. Shortly thereafter, strange events begin to occur, including several tragedies in a nobleman’s family.
Alessio Vassallo (The Young Montalbano, The Tailor’s Wife) stars in The Telephone Concession (La concessione del telefono) as Filippo “Pippo” Genuardi, a wood merchant in 1890s Vigata. After writing several letters to, but receiving no reply from, prefect Vittorio Marascianno (Corrado Guzzanti, Murders at Barlume) about the installation of a telephone line, the philandering Pippo resorts to a different tactic to get it, which ultimately puts him in a dangerous predicament with members of the mafia and of the police, as well as with his family.

Arctic Circle: Season 3 (Ivalo) (Finland)
Following on from the events in Season 2, the new season of this crime thriller finds Nina Kautsolo (Iina Kuustonen, Syke, Kimmo) back in the Lapland village of Ivalo, where she is soon to be the new chief of police. But before her promotion, Nina must put her investigative skills to work on a new case, alongside her old partner, Niilo Aikio (Janne Kataja, Hymyä!), after the local pharmacist is found murdered. At about the same time, a top-secret test car is hijacked, and the link between this crime and the homicide points Nina in the direction of the international car testing business in Ivalo. If she didn’t have enough on her plate already, criminal Arttu Hamari (Kari Hietalahti, Roba, Shadow Lines) is released from prison — and soon there’s another murder, also with connections to car testing.
While Nina continues her investigation into the crimes, she also gets more personally involved with an American engineer. Elsewhere in Ivalo, an auto manufacturer arrives to launch a new project; Hamari’s son is being bullied mercilessly; and Nina’s sister, Marita (Pihla Viitala, Deadwind, Cold Courage), is about to collapse under her construction project. When Nina finally puts all of the pieces together and discovers secrets from the past, she must race against the clock to prevent yet another murder from taking place.

Kübra (Türkiye)
Kübra stars Çagatay Ulusoy (The Tailor, Paper Lives, The Protector) as Gökhan Sahinoglu, a mechanic living in the backstreets of Istanbul, who is trying to pull his life together to marry the love of his life. But his future is going to be dramatically different from what he imagines.
Gökhan’s ordinary life gets disrupted when he starts receiving messages stating, “You are different!” from a user called Kübra through an online friendship platform that he is part of. Over time, Gökhan understands the meaning of this message and finds out who Kübra is, giving him intel and warnings on things that nobody knows about, including unexpected events, seemingly predicting the future. His acceptance of this message takes him on a difficult journey, where he will have enemies as well as supporters, and will find himself taking sides in a conflict that he sees as “the war of darkness and light.”

Circles of Power: Season 1 (Jeux d’influence) (France)
This drama thriller, the renamed second season of The Inside Game, is set a year after the events in the first series. After the banning of certain toxic agricultural pesticides, the situation has actually gotten worse, creating an unprecedented health crisis for Guillaume Delpierre (Laurent Stocker, Oussekine), now the Minister of Agriculture, to deal with, and for journalist Claire Lansel (Alix Poisson, Germinal), now working for a national newspaper, to investigate. Meanwhile, Mathieu Bowman (Jean-François Sivadier, The Returned), the lobbyist for agrochemical giant Saskia, will do anything and everything to cover up the growing health scandal, as mothers with sick children turn their helplessness into action.

Germinal (France)
Based on the novel Germinal by Émile Zola, considered one of the greatest French novels, this six-episode historical drama tells the story of the Anzin coal miners’ strike in northern France in the 1860s. The series also follows the personal story of Étienne Lantier (Louis Peres, How I Became a Super Hero), a (fictional) young worker disgusted by the poverty and exploitation of the coal miners.

Professor T: Season 4 (Germany)
Matthias Matschke (The Book Thief, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Flemming) stars in this German remake of the hit Flemish-language mystery-crime drama series as Jasper Thalheim, a highly-gifted psychologist and criminology professor at Cologne University. He’s also a high-functioning neurotic and germophobe with several dozen psychological disorders and a brilliant mind, one who helps the police crack their most puzzling cases. In the fourth and final season, Professor T returns to Cologne to help the police investigate the shooting death of a young woman, the discovery of a woman’s dead body in a garbage truck, the killing of a gossip columnist, and the shooting of someone close to Jasper. Will (Wil) (Belgium)
Based on Jeroen Olyslaegers’s book Will, inspired by his family’s actions during WWII, this 1942-set drama follows Wilfried Wils (Stef Aerts, Thieves of the Wood, Callboys) and Lode Metdepenningen (Matteo Simoni, Cold Courage, Callboys), young assistant police officers in Nazi-occupied Antwerp. While they support the resistance, they are forced to participate in the manhunt for Jews in their city. Amid the chaos and violence, Wil falls in love with Lode’s sister, Yvette (Annelore Crollet, Professor T), but conflicting emotions push him to the brink.

Set in a quaint village in the South of France, this thriller stars Ingrid Chauvin (Tomorrow Is Ours, Dolmen) as Estelle, a high school PE teacher who is suspected of having an affair with one of her students. Gossipmongers go into overdrive when said student mysteriously vanishes, which follows the disappearance of another student two years before, prompting the villagers to turn against Estelle.
Rumors has its US linear debut on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 9 PM ET, on Eurochannel.
Sugar Baby (Youtopia) (Italy)
Matilda De Angelis (The Law According to Lidia Poët, The Undoing) stars in this drama as Matilde, an eighteen-year-old who, despite having graduated six months ago, hasn’t been able to find a job to help her alcoholic, financially-struggling mother, Laura (Donatella Finocchiaro, Monterossi), and prevent the imminent loss of their family home.
