Hello (working title) sees a father and daughter, Sven and Charlie, waiting for Paula, his wife and her mum, at the gate at the airport, but she doesn’t show up. Her plane has vanished.

While Sven tries to protect Charlie from the terrible events, he clutches at every straw he is offered. Suddenly, it seems like he is onto something; Paula left him a clue, a trail of breadcrumbs for Sven to follow. But the further along the trail he goes, the more his life falls apart, the bigger the mystery grows, and the greater the threat for him, Charlie — and even the whole world. Because Paula was no average person. She was on the ISS. And there, in the darkness of space, she discovered something. Or didn’t she?

The four-episode sci-fi mystery thriller stars Florian David Fitz (100 Things, Welcome to Germany) as Sven, Yuna Bennett (Der Bergdoktor, Weihnachtstöchter) as Charlie, and Peri Baumeister (Blood Red Sky, Skylines) as Paula.

The cast also includes Nilam Farooq (The Witnesses), Katharina Schüttler (Allmen), Katharina Thalbach (Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin), Uwe Preuss (Charité), Meret Becker (Babylon Berlin), and Sheeba Chadha (Bandish Bandits), amongst others.

Based on an idea by Nadine Gottmann (Ayuda) and Sebastian Hilger (The Right Hand), the series is written by Florian David Fitz, Nadine Gottmann, and Kim Zimmermann (The Perfumier), and directed by Sebastian Hilger and Philipp Leinemann (The King’s Surrender). A production of Bon Voyage Films, sponsored by the German Motion Picture Fund, the producers are Christian Springer, Amir Hamz, Fahri Yardim.

Said Florian David Fitz:

“When I first read the original screenplay a few years ago, I thought it was such a unique, cross-genre idea that I’d never seen before. But the effort seemed huge, and it didn’t seem quite right for German cinema. We’re so lucky that Netflix is looking for exactly this kind of material, with twists and turns, where you’re never sure where it’s going next. It’s emotional, dark, cynical, loving, supernatural and yet fully grounded in our current world events.”

Steffi Ackermann, Director Series DACH at Netflix, commented:

“We’re really pleased about our first project with Florian David Fitz and everyone involved. It’s a really special collaboration for a really special story about an ordinary man who is dragged into a thoroughly abnormal situation.”

And Christian Springer, Producer, Bon Voyage Films, stated:

“A father and his daughter make an unbelievable discovery while trying to unravel the mystery of the disappearance of his wife and her mother. It’s a real challenge to tell this exciting and moving story in all its detail. We were able to get a phenomenal team, both in front of and behind the camera, and together they achieve unbelievable things.”

Filming on Hello (working title) is happening in and around Munich and Leipzig. The scenes at the space station are filmed at the Hyperbowl in Penzing, Bavaria, and at the Bavaria Studios in Munich, using extravagant ISS sets created by art director Eva Maria Stiebler (Biohackers).

Stay tuned for updates.
