Netflix announced today the global premiere date for The Playlist, the streamer’s new Original limited series about the creators of Spotify. Check out the teaser.
Inspired by the book The Spotify Play by Swedish business reporters Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud, The Playlist is a fictionalized account about how a young Swedish tech entrepreneur and his partners set out to revolutionize the music industry with a legal streaming platform: Spotify.
The Playlist, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Thursday, October 13, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now at https://www.netflix.com/theplaylist.)
At the height of piracy, established heavy-hitters were fighting against where the turbulent music industry was heading. The Playlist centers on Daniel Ek (Edvin Endre, Blinded, Fortitude, Vikings), a young Swedish tech entrepreneur who, with his key partners, revolutionized the entire industry by offering free and legally-streamed music around the world.
It is a story about how hard convictions, unrelenting will, access, and big dreams can help small players challenge the status quo by evolving the way we can all listen to music.
The six-episode drama costars Ulf Stenberg (Beartown, The Hunters) as Per Sundin, Gizem Erdogan (Love & Anarchy, Caliphate) as Petra Hansson, Joel Lützow (Gåsmamman, The Sandhamn Murders) as Andreas Ehn, Christian Hillborg (The Last Kingdom, The Bridge) as Martin Lorentzon, and Janice Kamya Kavander (Eagles) as Bobbie T.
Also featuring in the series are Valter Skarsgård (Beck), Amy Deasismont (Lust), Hanna Ardéhn (30 Degrees in February), Ella Rappich (Quicksand), Agnes Kittelsen (Beforeigners), Sofia Karemyr (Partisan), Sam Hazeldine (Peaky Blinders), and Patrick Baladi (Line of Duty).
A production of Yellow Bird UK, a Banijay Group company, The Playlist is directed by Per-Olav Sørensen (Quicksand, Nobel), and written by head writer Christian Spurrier (Silent Witness, MI-5) along with Sofie Forsman (Young Royals) and Tove Forsman (Barracuda Queens). The executive producer is Berna Levin (Occupied), the producer is Eiffel Mattsson (Young Wallander), and the development producer is Luke Franklin (Ransom).
