Today Netflix dropped the trailer for its new Swedish film, the young adult romance drama JJ+E.
Based on the award-winning novel Vinterviken by Swedish author Mats Wahl, JJ+E (Vinterviken) updates the story, first released in 1993, to modern-day Sweden.
The film premieres globally on Wednesday, September 8, exclusively on Netflix. You can set a reminder for it now at www.netflix.com/vinterviken. (It will also screen on Sweden’s Sveriges Television in 2022.)
Set in Stockholm in 2021, the drama centers on the love story between Elisabeth (newcomer Elsa Öhrn) and John-John (Mustapha Aarab, Beartown). These two youngsters are raised in the same city, yet they live light years apart — separated economically, socially and culturally — until the day they start in the same high school class.
Making its debut exclusively in the trailer is the film’s lead track, “Eld & Lågor,” the upcoming single from Swedish pop-singer Victor Leksell (named Artist of the Year at the 2021 Swedish Grammis).
The cast includes Magnus Krepper (Before We Die), Loreen (Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga), Marika Lagercrantz (Modus), Albin Grenholm (Caliphate), Otto Hargne (År det krig än), Simon Mezher (Beck), Jonay Pineda Skallak, and Elsa Bergström Terent.
A co-production of Filmlance, Netflix, and Sveriges Television, JJ+E is directed by Alexis Almström (Top Dog), written by Dunja Vujovic (Honour), and produced by Teresa Alldén (Top Dog).
