Production recently began on the Swedish Netflix Original comedy series Anxious People, and today Netflix announced the cast.
Anxious People is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Fredrik Backman, whose literary debut — A Man Called Ove — became a global sensation and was adapted into a film that garnered two Oscar® nominations.
Alfred Svensson (The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, Bonus Family) plays the lead role of Jack, and Dan Ekborg (Black Widows, Hamilton: In the Interest of the Nation) plays Jack’s dad, Jim. Rounding out the ensemble cast are Leif Andrée (Real Humans), Sascha Zacharias (Rebecka Martinsson), Carla Sehn (Love & Anarchy), Petrina Solange (Mina Problem), Marika Lagercrantz (Modus), Anna Granath (A Man Called Ove), Per Andersson (A Piece of My Heart), Sofia Ledarp (Miss Friman’s War), Shima Niavarani (The Simple Heist), Lottie Ejebrant (Crimes of Passion), and Vera Herngren (The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared).
A riotous comedy, Anxious People is about a hostage drama during an open house. A failed bank robber locks himself in with an over-enthusiastic real estate agent, two bitter IKEA addicts, a pregnant woman, a suicidal multi-millionaire, and a rabbit. In the end, the robber gives up and lets everyone go, but when the police storm the apartment, it is… empty.
In a series of dysfunctional testimonies afterwards, the witnesses tell their versions of what happened, whereupon a mystery develops around three questions: How did the robber manage to escape? Why is everyone so angry? And what is wrong with people these days?
Produced by FLX (Love & Anarchy, Quicksand), the series is directed by Felix Herngren (Bonus Family), scripted by head writer Camilla Ahlgren (Bron/Broen) and Alex Haridi (Blue Eyes), and produced by Anna Carlsten (Easy Money). The Executive Producers are Fatima Varhos and Pontus Edgren for FLX, Fredrik Backman, Neda Backman, and Tor Jonasson for literary agency Salomonsson Agency.
