Principal photography has started in Istanbul on The Gift, a mystery drama that follows Atiye (Beren Saat, Forbidden Love), a young and beautiful painter who leads the perfect life in Istanbul — she has a loving family and a wealthy and lovable boyfriend, and to top it all off, she is about to open her first solo exhibition.

But her life changes with a discovery made in Gobeklitepe, the most ancient temple on Earth.

An archeologist named Erhan haps upon a symbol in the ruins — a symbol that connects Atiye to Gobeklitepe in a very mysterious way. Atiye then turns her life upside down as she goes on a quest to discover the secrets of her past that are hidden within those ancient ruins.

Said Kelly Luegenbiehl, Vice President of International Originals at Netflix:

“We believe that our second Turkish original series starring Beren Saat will convey a new and exciting story from Turkey to the world. Our journey began in Istanbul with The Protector, and continues with our new series that introduces Anatolia’s natural, cultural and historical heritage from Gobeklitepe to Nemrut to our global audience…”

According to the Netflix announcement:

“The journey from Istanbul to Gobeklitepe and Nemrut, passing through Anatolia, provides a connection between the spiritual world and the material world, the modern world and ancient World, exploring and transformation.”

The series features Mehmet Gunsur (Magnificent Century), Metin Akdulger (Medcezir), Melisa Senolsun (Kiralik Ask), Basak Koklukaya (Magic Carpet Ride), Civan Canova (Broken Pieces), and Tim Seyfi (Tatort).

A production of OG Medya for Netflix, The Gift is produced by Alex Sutherland (The Protector, The State, Any Human Heart) and directed by Ozan Açiktan (Consequences) and Gonenc Uyanik (The Protector). The eight-part drama is executive produced by Onur Guvenatam alongside Ozge Bagdatlioglu and Jason George, who is writing the drama with Nuran Evren.

After Istanbul, filming will continue in various cities of Southeastern Anatolia, primarily in Gobeklitepe.

The Gift is set to debut globally in 2019. Stay tuned for updates.
