Norwegian actor Pål Sverre Hagen and Norwegian-Swedish actress Pia Halvorsen have boarded the new medical drama/thriller/love story Valkyrien.
Pål Sverre Hagen, who starred as explorer Thor Heyerdahl in Kon-Tiki and mob boss Greven in In Order of Disappearance (both films are fabulous, by the way), has been cast in Valkyrien in the role of Leif, a corrupt civil defense official with connections to the underground criminal and political world.
Ravn runs an illegal medical clinic housed in a disused bomb shelter, while also secretly treating his dying wife, Vilma, played by Pia Halvorsen (Arne Dahl, The Fjällbacka Murders). Halvorsen is perhaps best known for her role as Inger in the original Swedish sci-fi series Real Humans, remade as the UK/US series Humans.
The eight-part series is based on an idea by Lars Gudmestad (Headhunters) and Simen Svale Skogsrud (U -Trippel), and co-created/co-written by Thomas Seeberg Torjussen (Norwegian Cozy) and Erik Richter Strand (Occupied, Varg Veum), who also directs. Others on the screenwriting team include Gudmestad, Skogsrud, Bjorn Ekeberg (Campingliv), Kathrine Valen Zeiner (Eyewitness).
Producing Valkyrien are Eric Vogel (Norwegian Cozy) and Nina B. Andersson (The Half Brother), with Ronnie Fridthjof (Sjit Happens) serving as associate executive producer.
Valkyrien is a production of Tordenfilm, in cooperation with Fridthjof Film, with support from the Nordisk Film & TV Fond, NFI, NRK, APC, and Storyline Studios. About Premium Content (APC) will distribute the series, which is slated to premiere locally on NRK in 2017.
Stay tuned for updates about if/when Valkyrien will screen in the US and/or UK.
