Lisbeth Salander will be back, and not just once but twice, as Swedish author David Lagercrantz is set to write another two Nordic noir sequels to the “Millennium” series.

The late Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium” series (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest), which has sold more than 80 million copies worldwide, will have three sequels.

The fourth “Millennium” title, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, penned by Larsson’s fellow Swede David Lagercrantz, topped the Barnes & Noble, USA Today, Indiebound, and New York Times bestseller lists after it sold more than 200,000 copies in the US in its first week following publication in September 2015.

Published in late August in other territories, global sales of the book totaled more than 2.3 million copies in the first two weeks.

With success such as this, it’s no wonder that Swedish publisher Norstedts has tapped Lagercrantz to pen two more books featuring the tattooed and pierced hacker heroine Lisbeth Salander (and most likely journalist Mikael Blomkvist, too).

Said Lagercrantz, “I simply can’t resist. It has been amazing fun to write and such a breathtaking adventure. Also, I think I have a really good story.”

According to Norstedts, the second sequel will be published in 2017, with the third likely coming in 2019.

Now the question is, will The Girl in the Spider’s Web and the upcoming two titles be adapted into Swedish films, as the first three books were in the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy? (And if so, will Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist reprise their roles as Salander and Blomqvist?) Finger crossed!
