Taro has been the mayor of Marseille for 25 years, and in the upcoming elections, he finds that his opponent is the man he had chosen as his heir (Benoit Magimel, Little White Lies, The Piano Teacher), an ambitious young upstart with high aims for his career.

Both candidates will fight mercilessly — around revenge and animated by drug lords, unions, politicos, and other political players of the city.

Also cast in lead roles in Marseille are Geraldine Pailhas (Don Juan DeMarco) and Nadia Fares (The Crimson Rivers).

The eight-episode series is created and written by Dan Franck (La Séparation, Les Hommes de l’Ombre), who cowrote the Golden Globe-winning miniseries Carlos.

Florent Emilio Siri (L’Ennemi Intime, Hostage) will direct the first two episodes. Xavier Gens (Crossing Lines, Hitman) and Cedric Anger (Next Time I’ll Aim for the Heart, The Counsel) will also direct. Producing is Pascal Breton (Dolmen, Sous le Soleil) for the Paris-based Federation Entertainment.

Shooting will take place entirely in France.

Marseille was originally slated to premiere in late 2015 on Netflix in all of its territores, but has been pushed back to early 2016.
