Netflix has set the premiere date for the new thriller series, The Crystal Cuckoo, from Spain.
The Crystal Cuckoo (El cuco de cristal) is based on the best-selling novel El cuco de cristal (The Crystal Cuckoo) by Javier Castillo, author of the “Snow Girl” novels that were adapted into the Netflix series.
The six-episode series follows Clara Merlo (Catalina Sopelana, The Gardener, Wrong Side of the Tracks, Sky Rojo), a first-year medical resident who suffers a sudden cardiac arrest. Although she undergoes a heart transplant, giving her a second chance at life, the successful procedure also awakens in her an unease that she cannot ignore: She needs to know who her donor was.
So begins her search for the person, which leads her to a small, mysterious inland village, where she discovers that the heart now beating inside her once belonged to a young man who was caught in an unresolved tragedy. Clara ends up delving into this place full of secrets and a mystery that extends over twenty years, triggering a chain of events that will uncover a past that many believed had been buried forever. How interesting, then, that on the very day of Clara’s arrival, a baby disappears in a public park.
The Crystal Cuckoo, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Friday, November 14, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
Costars include Alex García (Holy Family, The Immortal), Itziar Ituño (Berlin, Money Heist), Iván Massagué (The Gardener, The Platform 2), Alfons Nieto (Burning Body, Elite), and Tomás del Estal (Gangs of Galicia, Iron Reign).
A production of Atípica Films, the series is written by Jesús Mesas and Javier Andrés Roig, who penned The Snow Girl series, and directed by Laura Alvea (The Snow Girl) and Juan Miguel del Castillo (The Gypsy Bride).
