Family businesses can be fraught with all kinds of drama about things large and small, which can make for some fun viewing, as in the French comedy series Family Business. Ditto when relatives inherit a business from a deceased family member, like the sisters whose grandfather bequeathed to them a funeral home in the Kiwi comedy series Good Grief.

Without having seen it yet, but from the sounds of it, Death Inc. seems more like Good Grief. Both are dark comedies. In the Spanish series, the owner and founder of the Torregrosa Funeral Home, Gonzalo Torregrosa, has died, leaving his right-hand man, Dámaso Carrillo (Carlos Areces, Superstar, Alpha Males, 30 Coins), believing that he should take over the business in order to ensure its future.

However, Gonzalo’s septuagenarian widow, Nieves (Ascen López, Alpha Males, Liar), decides to take charge of the family biz with help from Chemi (Diego Martín, Rotten Legacy, Elite), her clueless but enthusiastic son-in-law and a marketing “expert.” But her plan runs counter to those of her daughters, who intend to shut the whole thing down and open a gym.

While Dámaso schemes and manipulates his colleagues against Nieves et al., the company faces stiff competition from rival funeral home Transitus and its aggressive expansion strategy, not to mention a #MeToo-style scandal that threatens Gonzalo Torregrosa’s legacy.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Death Inc. premiere globally on Thursday, July 31, on Netflix, followed by Season 3 on Thursday, August 21, when it launches as an exclusive Netflix Series. (You can set a reminder for it now.)

The cast also includes Salva Reina (Rotten Legacy, Iron Reign), Aitziber Garmendia (Alpha Males, The Neighbor), Adriana Torrebejano (Alpha Males, No Traces), Gerard B. Fillmore (What Lucia Saw, The Footballest), Amaia Salamanca (Welcome to Eden, Velvet), Roque Ruiz (Gangs of Galicia, The Mess You Leave Behind), Lorea Intxausti (Go!azen, Anaiak), and Manolo Cal (The Ministry of Time, Cuéntame cómo pasó).

A production of Contubernio Films, the series is directed by Laura Caballero (Alpha Males), and written by Alberto Caballero (Alpha Males), Daniel Deorador (Alpha Males), Julián Sastre (The Countryside), and Nando Abad (The Countryside).
