Viaplay has set the US premiere date for Season 1 of the family-friendly Swedish action-fantasy series, Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter.
Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter (Ronja Rövardotter) is an enchanting, adventure-filled, coming-of-age story story that follows the adventures of Ronja (Kerstin Linden, Summer with the In-Laws, The Emigrants), a spirited and rebellious girl born into a gang of robbers in a medieval Scandinavian castle.
As Ronja grows up, she discovers the magical, mystical forest, teeming with mysterious and fearsome creatures like the wile-wings and gray dwarfs, where she feels more at home than in the castle. When she meets Birk (Jack Bergenholtz-Henriksson), a young boy from a rival gang, it marks the beginning of a vicious family feud and the start of a forbidden friendship, all while a notorious bailiff arrives to rid the forest of robbers once and for all.
Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter: Season 1 premieres in the US as a six-episode binge on Thursday, November 21, exclusively on Viaplay partner channels, including Viaplay on Prime Video Channels. It will be available in both English-subtitled and English-dubbed versions.
The series costars Christopher Wagelin (The Truth Will Out), Krista Kosonen (Beforeigners), Sverrir Gudnason (Love Me), Maria Nohra (Heder), Pernilla August (Young Royals), Vera Vitali (Bonus Family), and Johan Ulveson (Love Me), amongst others.
Written by Hans Rosenfeldt (creator of The Bridge and Marcella), and based on the classic fantasy book of the same name by beloved Swedish author Astrid Lindgren (“Pippi Longstocking” books), Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter is considered one of the most ambitious Nordic series ever. It debuted outside the US on Netflix, with the first season reaching Netflix’s Top 10 in 15 countries, including France, the Nordics, Poland, and the Netherlands, and becoming the #1 TV series in Sweden.
