Netflix has announced that Lisa Aschan, the executive producer behind The Chestnut Man and Borgen, will direct an as-yet-untitled Swedish film for the streamer.
In ramping up its Swedish film slate, Netflix has commissioned this dramedy that Lisa Aschan (Ring Mamma!) will direct from a script by Marie Østerbye (Splitting Up Together, Rita), a heartwarming story with a light touch of humor.
The cast includes Charlotta Björck (Charlotta × 8), Amaël Blomgren, Ia Langhammer (The Truth Will Out), Peshang Rad (Bäckström), Juan Rodriguez (Before We Die), Sanna Sundqvist (Bonus Family), and Ville Virtanen (Bordertown).
In the film, Sara (Sanna Sundqvist) lives in a perfect nuclear family with Daniél and their young son, Eliot (Amael Blomgren), with a second child on the way. But their life is turned upside down and the heavily-pregnant Sara is suddenly left alone. Help soon arrives in the completely unexpected appearance of Sara’s estranged older sister, Linda (Charlotta Björck), a helpless, immature adult with a large, erratic dog, who offers to move in and help out.
A heartwarming story about forgiveness, family, and sisterhood, the Swedish-language film has started production in Stockholm. It is the first Netflix film produced by Meta Film Stockholm.
Said director Lisa Aschan:
“I was completely blown away by Marie’s script. Making it come to life has been very intriguing and so much fun.”
Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen, executive producer and CEO of Meta Film, stated:
“We are proud and happy to announce our very first feature film for Netflix, which hopefully will be the first of many. Marie Østerbye‘s captivating manuscript swept my feet away immediately, and I look forward to seeing it develop into a film in the skilled hands of Lisa Aschan.”
Stine Meldgaard Madsen (Ragnarok) is the film’s producer, with MistreTesfaye as associate producer. The executive producers are Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen, Marie Østerbye, and Maria Dahlin.
Stay tuned for updates.
