North American streaming service MHz Choice has announced some of its upcoming slate, including new series and seasons scheduled in September and December.

What’s on tap are more mysteries, crime shows, and dramas, including new titles from France, Italy, and Sweden; new seasons of shows from Finland-Spain, Germany, and Norway; the return or addition to streaming of series from Belgium, Italy, and Sweden; and more seasons of French cop dramas dubbed in English.

NEW SERIES & SEASONS
The Paradise: Season 2 (Paratiisi) (Finland-Spain)
This mystery-crime drama series follows Hikka Mäntymäki (Riitta Havukainen, Freezing Embrace, Idiomatic, Roba), a Finnish detective from Oulu, Finland, who investigates crimes involving Finnish nationals in Spain. Season 2 finds Hikka returning to the Costa del Sol to investigate the murder of an unknown Finnish man with an Oulu animal tattoo on his hand, while Commissioner Luisa Salinas (María Romero, In from the Cold) leads the homicide inquiry for the Spanish police. And a visit by her colleague, Inspector Andrés Villanueva (Fran Perea, The Neighbor), to Finland takes a new turn when he begins to assist Hilkka and Kimi (Asko Vaarala, On Happiness) in their investigation of a brutal international criminal organization.

Vanina (Vanina – Un vicequestore a Catania) (Italy)
Based on the “Vanina Guarrasi” mystery novels by Cristina Cassar Scalia, this crime drama series stars Giusy Buscemi (Don Matteo, Paradise) as Giovanna “Vanina” Guarrasi, an anti-mafia police officer in Palermo who pulls up stakes and relocates to Catania, where she leads the local homicide unit. Her move was prompted by two things: to avenge the mafia assassination of her father, Inspector Giovanni Guarrasi (Davide Dolores, Makari: Sicilian Mysteries), murdered when she was just a teen, and to forget her former relationship with Paolo Malfitano (Giorgio Marchesi, Hotel Portofino), an anti-mafia magistrate.
Costarring Claudio Castrogiovanni (Mafia Only Kills in Summer), Corrado Fortuna (Ripley), Orlando Cinque (Romanzo Criminale), and Dajana Roncione (Detective Montalbano), amongst others, Vanina premieres Tuesday, September 16.
Family Cases (Les Pennac(s)) (France)
This crime dramedy limited series follows retired police captain Hannibal Pennac (Christian Rauth, Under Law and Grace, Mongeville) and his estranged daughter, Annabelle (Julie-Anne Roth, The Art of Crime, Call My Agent!), a police captain who’s now working in his old department in Montpellier (and hiding her dyslexia). He’s trying to make up for having been an absent father and grandfather; she’s not having it. But, as fate would have it, understaffing causes Hannibal, a reservist, to get involved in Annabelle’s investigations, and the two team up to solve crimes.
Costarring Marie-Sohna Condé (He Even Has Your Eyes), Alexia Chicot (Syndrome E), Valentin Pinette (The Art of Crime), Fejria Deliba (Murder in Saint Malo), and Matthieu Penchinat (Candice Renoir), amongst others, Family Cases premieres Tuesday, September 23.
Tatort: Münster: Season 2 (Germany)
This series in the “Tatort” crime drama franchise follows working class detective Frank Thiel (Axel Prahl, Eisland, Blame Game) and Professor Karl-Friedrich Boerne (Jan Josef Liefers, Arthur’s Law, The Tower), the upper-crust coroner, as they investigate quirky cases in the city of Münster, considered the cultural center of the Westphalia region of Germany. Riviere-Perdue (France)
Adapted from the Spanish series La caza. Monteperdido, this six-episode mystery limited series sees Anna (Charlotte Lacoste, Murder in Meaux), a teenager who was kidnapped five years ago, miraculously reappear during a car accident. This prompts Captain Alix Berg (Barbara Cabrita, Pacific Criminal) and Commander Balthus (Jean-Michel Tinivelli, Alice Nevers) to team up with local gendarme Victor Ferrer (Nicolas Gob, The Art of Crime, A French Village) to solve the mystery, as well as to find Lucie, another young girl who was abducted at the same time as Anna but who has not reappeared.
Featuring an all-star supporting cast led by Bruno Debrandt (Spiral, The Traveller), Samir Boitard (Spiral, Blood Coast), Patrick Descamps (Tandem, A French Village), and Cyril Gueï (Agatha Christie’s Criminal Games, Haven Of Grace), Riviere-Perdue premieres Tuesday, September 30.
State of Happiness: Season 3 (Lykkeland) (Norway)
This 1980s-set period drama about the history of Norway’s oil industry comes to a close with the third season. Following the events in Season 2, the final season sees Anna (Anne Regine Ellingsæter), now a widow and mother, leave her secure position at the Oil Directorate to join a start-up called Komponent, led by the charismatic engineer, Sture (Herman Flesvig, Beforeigners). Her brother, Rein (Ole Christoffer Ertvaag, Home for Christmas), an offshore worker, joins her in the venture. But financial struggles lead to tension between the siblings, when Rein suggests selling their family farm to fund the company. (Video is from Season 2)
Costarring Mads Sjøgård Pettersen (Wisting), Pia Tjelta (Beck, Codename Hunter), Stig Henrik Hoff (In Order of Disappearance, Codename Hunter), and Malene Wadel (Evy & Alltid), amongst others, State of Happiness: Season 3 premieres Tuesday, December 9.

Based on Kerstin Ekman’s internationally best-selling novel Blackwater, this period mystery-crime drama is set across two time periods. On a midsummer evening in 1973, two tourists are found murdered in a tent near the small, isolated town of Blackwater in northern Sweden. Two decades later, the crimes remain unsolved, leading to yet another murder…

Romanzo Criminale: Season 1 (Romanzo Criminale – La serie) (Italy)
Adapted from Giancarlo De Cataldo’s novel Romanzo Criminale, as well as the 2005 film of the same name, this gritty crime drama centers on the Banda della Magliana, a criminal gang that operated in Rome in the 1970s and ‘80s. The series follows three friends — the Lebanese (Francesco Montanari, Real Men, The Hunter), Freddo (Vinicio Marchioni, The Lions of Sicily, 1994), and Dandi (Alessandro Roja, Don’t Leave Me, 1992) — who led the gang.

Set in 2018, three years after the events in Season 1, Season 2 of this mystery-crime thriller series finds Yoann Peeters (Yoann Blanc, Pandora, Helvetica, Station Horizon) has moved from Heiderfeld to Musso, another village in the Ardennes about thirty kilometers away. Here, he gets entangled in another disturbing murder case after his former psychiatrist, Jasmina Orban (Jasmina Douieb, Torpedo), asks him for help.
Jasmina wants Yoann to prove that her 27-year-old patient, Dany Bastin (Aurélien Caeyman, UFOs), who was recently released from prison, did not murder Astrid du Tilleul, a wealthy local woman found dead in her swimming pool. Even though Yoann isn’t a detective anymore, he dives in to get to the truth. But will he manage to discover the murderer without being consumed by the ghosts of his past?

Featuring Johan Rheborg (The Glass Dome), Malin Crépin (The Sandhamn Murders), Annika Hallin (The Breakthrough), and Linus Wahlgren (Crimes of Passion), amongst others, Max Anger – With One Eye Open is added to streaming on Tuesday, September 9.
