The Sunshine Murders (Cyprus-New Zealand-UK)

Set in Greece, this mystery-crime drama series follows an unlikely crime fighting duo made up of two very different sisters. Shirley Rangi (Emily Corcoran, Mars, The Stolen), a farmer from New Zealand, travels to Athens in search of her father. Here, she meets her Greek half-sister, Helen Moustakas (Dora Chrysikou, I gi tis elias, I zoi tis allis), a detective. It isn’t long before Shirley starts helping Helen to solve crimes with her Down Under wit and wisdom while they try to find their missing father.

In the series opener, Helen is struggling with her job, her teenager, and her ex-husband when a Kiwi woman named Shirley shows up, claiming to be her half-sister. Helen thinks Shirley is off her rocker, but then accidentally brings her to the crime scene of the mysterious death of an archaeologist, where Shirley inadvertently helps with clues. After twisting her ankle, Helen has no choice but to let Shirley drive her to interview the suspects at a beautiful hotel, and later to her daughter, Thalia’s (Chloe Stannage, The Secret Garden), school — which Shirley offers to do in exchange for Helen’s agreeing to get a DNA test. The day ends even more bizarrely than it began for Helen: That night, she’s attacked outside her home, but, fortunately, is rescued by Shirley. Now, the pair must find the attacker.

Costars in the series include British pop star Peter Andre (Tripped), Stephanie Beacham (Dynasty), Camilla Rutherford (Hotel Portofino), Nick Moran (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Nina Wadia (Eastenders), and Marina Sirtis (Star Trek: The Next Generation).

The Sunshine Murders premieres in the US with two episodes on Thursday, September 4, starting at 8pm ET, on UPtv.

Prison Island (L’île prisonnière) (France)

Marking novelist Michel Bussi’s (Time Is a Killer) first foray into writing for television, this drama thriller series sees the (fictional) island of Penhic, heretofore an unremarkable but quaint and peaceful place, get turned into a veritable prison when twenty armed activists arrive and take all of the inhabitants hostage, confining them to the school.

Led by Alpha (Lannick Gautry, Repercussions, Fear by the Lake), the group is very well organized, but their motives for coming to and taking over Penhic remain a secret. Alpha has planned everything to a tee, but he didn’t account for one unforeseen thing: Five passengers on the shuttle that connects the mainland and Penhic, which is isolated off the coast of Britanny, managed to escape and hide on the island…

Costarring Pierre Perrier (The Returned), Antoine Duléry (Perfect Murders), and Marie Denarnaud (HPI Haut Potentiel Intellectuel), amongst others, Prison Island, a Walter Presents title, premieres in the US and Canada on Friday, September 5, exclusively on the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel and other Walter Presents partner channels.

Most Wanted: Teen Hacker (Finland)

This four-episode, English-language docuseries tells the unbelievable true story of Finnish teenager Julius Kivimäki, once named by the FBI as one of the most dangerous hackers in the world. Kivimäki rose to infamy after forcing a U.S. passenger plane to make an emergency landing, shutting down PlayStation globally, and orchestrating several dangerous SWAT attacks — including one targeting the family of an FBI agent.

The documentary uncovers, for example, how the FBI tracked down the then-15-year-old hacker at a casino in Las Vegas. It also includes compelling interviews with FBI agents, SWAT team members, cybersecurity experts, Kivimäki’s victims, internationally-recognized hackers, and Kivimäki himself (now known as Aleksanteri Kivimäki), who is currently serving a prison sentence.

Most Wanted: Teen Hacker, a Max Original, premieres in the US and across Europe, Latin America, Australia, and Southeast Asia on Friday, September 5, exclusively on HBO Max and its digital channels, including HBO Max on Prime Channels. New episodes will drop weekly through September 26.

In the Name of Love (I kjærlighetens navn) (Norway)

Based on the real and untold story of series creator and director Bård Breien’s (The Art of Negative Thinking) unconventional childhood, this eight-episode half-hour comedy-drama series takes viewers on a journey through the past of two brothers who were raised by two very different parents. Opening in the 1990s, one of the brothers, Balder (Jonas Oftebro, Ragnarok, The Trip), and his wife (Ingrid Gaever, The Architect, Headhunters) welcome their entire family to their daughter’s baptism. Well, almost the entire family.

Balder’s father, Lars (Trond Espen Seim, The Legacy, Varg Veum), shows up uninvited, and the Bang family’s past — their fortune was built selling underground porn in conservative 1970s Norway — is brought to light. Back then, Balder’s mother, Anne-Lise (Maria Bonnevie, Another Round, Becoming Astrid), a discreet feminist and primary school teacher, did everything she could to keep the family’s business a secret, while wealthy porn businessman Lars saw eroticism as political rebellion against the morality police. Will Balder’s wife still love him when she finds out about the unsavory family secret?

Also starring Jonas Oftebro’s real-life brother, Jakob Oftebro (Agent Hamilton, Below the Surface), In the Name of Love, a Viaplay Original Series, premieres with two episodes on Monday, September 8, exclusively on Viaplay on Prime Channels and other Viaplay partner channels. This makes for a summer of seriously intense dating for Amanda, who goes on dates with all kinds of guys she meets in bars and from swiping on dating apps — whether they’re in, out of, or below her league. Regardless of whether she’s submissive or dominating (depending on the guy), she’s still left abandoned and alone. Heck, she even has a hard time getting to second base, much less to a second date.

The same thing goes for Amanda’s friends, so together they try to find new dates for each other while debating the big questions: Why is it so hard to find love? How much can the world really require from a person? And how many times can you go out into the world with your heart on your sleeve, only to have it stepped on once again?
