Netflix has announced Football Parents, a new comedy series from The Netherlands.
Production has started on Football Parents (Voetbalouders), which revolves around a group of overbearing parents who shamelessly meddle in their children’s amateur football (soccer) careers. (As far as I can tell, this behavior, if not universal, is often on display on sports fields, courts, rinks, etc. in the US.)
As regards the new series, we are introduced to this world of overenthusiastic parents of football-playing youngsters through Lillian and her son Levi, who is new to the team. Lillian quickly realizes that she wants to escape from this quirky group of parents, especially from Marenka, who is the last person you want to deal with on a Saturday morning. However, Levi wants to stay; he even becomes friends with Vito, the most eccentric kid of all, who happens to be Marenka’s son.
The cast includes Ilse Warringa (Vlogmania), Eva van Gessel (Vechtershart), Mariana Aparicio (The Blood Pact), Michiel Nooter (Van der Valk), Edwin Jonker (Goede tijden, slechte tijden), Bas Hoeflaak (Sluipschutters), Guido Pollemans (Ferry: The Series), Leonoor Koster (Flikken Maastricht), Arnoud Bos (Force), Nyncke Beekhuyzen (Lord & Master), Gurkan Küçüksentürk (The Blood Pact), Evrim Akyigit (Dirty Lines), Rian Gerritsen (The Godless), Steef Cuijpers (Ferry: The Series), and René van ‘t Hof (Force).
A production of Hollands Licht, the series is written by Ilse Warringa, who co-directs with Albert Jan Van Rees (The Adulterer).
Football Parents, a Netflix Series, premieres exclusively on Netflix in 2025 (date tba). Stay tuned for updates.
