Netflix has set the global premiere date for Vanished into the Night, a new mystery thriller film from Italy.
Vanished into the Night (Svaniti nella notte) stars Riccardo Scamarcio (The Last Paradiso, The Binding, The Players) and Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders, Star Trek: Discovery, The Tudors) as Pietro, a man with a rocky past, and Elena, an American psychiatrist who loved Pietro and moved to Puglia, Italy, to be with him. They married and had two children, and dreamed of restoring a masseria farmhouse and transforming it into a hotel. But things between Pietro and Elena didn’t work out, and they split up.
Now the two are in the midst of a custody battle, a situation made much worse when the children go missing while they’re with Pietro at the farm. After searching furiously for them but not finding them, Pietro has no choice but to let Elena know. Not surprisingly, she is beyond upset and blames him to no end.
Then they receive a phone call. Their children have been kidnapped. To get them back, they must pay 150,000 euros in cash within 36 hours. For Elena, everything is crystal clear: The kidnappers are the loan sharks with whom Pietro got into debt while trying (unsuccessfully) to restore the farm. These are dangerous people, capable of anything, so Pietro and Elena will have to do as they say.
With nowhere else to turn, Pietro contacts his old friend, Nicola (Massimiliano Gallo, The Bastards of Pizzofalcone, Imma Tataranni, Vincenzo Malinconico), who offers him a deal: Nicola will give Pietro the money he needs if Pietro picks up some drugs for him from his business “partners.” Nicola always needs “clean” boats for his criminal activities, and Pietro’s is perfect for this purpose. The people with the drugs are three hours away, on an island between Puglia and Greece, and if Pietro agrees to the deal, he is to go there that same evening.
He does, and so begins Pietro’s crazy adventure in the middle of the sea, from which he miraculously emerges alive in the morning. But when he returns to Bari, he finds a totally different situation from the one he had left just a few hours earlier. Nothing seems to correspond to reality anymore, and people are behaving absurdly, Elena first and foremost. Pietro thinks he is going crazy. What is going on here?!?
But Pietro doesn’t have the time to think, as time is running out and the mystery must be solved quickly.
Vanished into the Night, a Netflix Film, premieres globally on Thursday, July 11, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)
