Now streaming in the US is the Spanish crime thriller The Courier, starring Arón Piper in the lead role.
Having landed on Netflix US four days ago, The Courier has rocketed up the rankings and is sitting pretty in the #3 spot in movies today on the streamer.
Inspired by actual events, The Courier is set in the year 2002, when the euro went into full effect in Spain and other eurozone countries. It stars Arón Piper (Elite, Muted, The Mess You Leave Behind) as Iván, a young man from Vallecas who increasingly finds this neighborhood in Madrid too small for him and his grand plans.
Iván works as a valet at a posh golf club in Spain’s capital city, where the luxury that surrounds him feeds his desire for riches and delusions of grandeur. How serendipitous, then, that this place becomes the launch pad for his new gig as a Belgian courier for an international money-laundering organization, for which Iván begins transporting briefcases full of cash to Brussels and Geneva.
Not content to do this for a tiny fraction of what the money launderers are raking in, Iván wants in on more of the action — specifically the dirty money that flows in abundance on the Costa del Sol, where corrupt politicians, businessmen, bankers, athletes, and mafiosi mix, mingle, and amass fortunes.
