Netflix has announced The Conference, a new Swedish Original comedy-horror thriller film based on Mats Strandberg‘s best-selling novel.
The Conference is a Swedish comedy slasher film about a team-building conference attended by municipal employees. The event spirals into a nightmare when accusations of corruption begin to circulate and plague the work environment — all while a mysterious figure begins stalking and murdering the participants, one-by-one.
Katia Winter (Agent Hamilton), Adam Lundgren (The Restaurant), and Eva Melander (Rebecka Martinsson) lead the cast, which includes Bahar Pars (Black Lake), Maria Sid (All the Sins), Marie Agerhäll (Anxious People), Christoffer Nordenrot (Clark), Amed Bozan (Caliphate), Lola Zackow (Maria Wern), Claes Hartelius (Young Royals), Cecilia Nilsson (Spring Tide), Jimmy Lindström (The Unlikely Murderer), and Martin Lagos (Snabba Cash).
Directed by Patrik Eklund (We Got This) and written by Thomas Moldestad (Varg Veum), the film is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Mats Strandberg, a prolific horror writer called “the Swedish Stephen King,” who serves as an executive producer on the film.
Said Strandberg:
“It has been fantastic to serve as an executive producer on The Conference. We’ve had way better atmosphere in our meetings, than the characters in the film. Thomas Moldestad and Patrik Eklund have done an incredible job of capturing not only the blood and the tension, but also the humor and the everyday awkwardness that can only take place at a Swedish conference. And the cast is better than I could ever have imagined.”
Commented Patrik Eklund:
“It is an honor to bring The Conference to the screen together with SF Studios and Netflix. With Mats Strandberg’s unique novel as a model and a phenomenal cast, this film has all the potential to become a future classic. A very bloody, entertaining and gripping story about the unsung anti-heroes of the public sector.”
A project of SF Studios (Loving Adults, Snabba Cash) produced by Ina Sohlberg (The Lawyer), The Conference will premiere globally on Netflix in 2023 (date tba). (You can set a reminder for it now.)
