Netflix announced today Forgotten Love, a new Original film from Poland, based on the iconic novel Znachor.
Forgotten Love is a universal story based on Tadeusz Dołęga-Mostowicz‘s iconic novel Znachor (The Quack). It follows a respected surgeon, Professor Rafal Wilczur, who, abandoned by his wife, falls victim to a mugging and, as a result of his injuries, loses his memory. Years later, poor and still suffering from amnesia, he meets his daughter.
It is a touching story about love that overcomes all obstacles and makes people destined for each other find their way to one another.
Leading the cast is Leszek Lichota (High Water, Hold Tight, Wataha) as Professor Rafal Wilczur. Said Lichota:
“I grew up on professor Wilczur’s story. I feel very privileged to have been able to play a character as important to the polish[sic] culture as this one. Period dramas are always challenging but I do believe that the director and the crew did a wonderful job recreating the aesthetics of the 20/30s of the XXth century. A time in history when honor, work ethics, empathy and romantic love were in the forefront.”
The main cast also includes Maria Kowalska (Sexify), Ignacy Liss (The Defence) and Anna Szymańczyk (Autumn Girl). It also features Mirosław Haniszewski (The Teacher), Mikołaj Grabowski (The Defence), Izabela Kuna (Family Secrets), Paweł Tomaszewski (The Woods), Małgorzata Mikołajczak (Family Secrets), and Łukasz Szczepanowski (Cracow Monsters).
Michal Gazda makes his feature film debut as a director with Forgotten Love, which is written by Marcin Baczynski and Mariusz Kuczewski, and produced by Magdalena Szwedkowicz. Tomasz Augustynek is the cinematographer.
Forgotten Love will premiere globally exclusively on Netflix in the second half of 2023. Stay tuned for updates.
