Netflix announced today the cast of its new crime thriller series Deliver Me.
Based on Malin Persson Giolito’s best-selling novel of the same name, Deliver Me features a cast of newcomers and established, esteemed actors alike.
Newcomers Yasir Hassan and Olle Strand star in the series as fourteen-year-old best friends Billy and Dogge. Playing Billy’s mother, Leila, is Yusra Warsama (Castle Rock), and Ane Dahl Torp (Occupied) and Henrik Norlén (Modus) play Dogge’s parents, Jill and Teo.
The main cast also includes Ardalan Esmaili (Snabba Cash) as local police officer Farid, Mahmut Suvakci (Johan Falk) as Sudden, Solomon Njie (En mot en) as Mehdi, and Abdirahman Mohamed as Tusse, Billy’s younger brother.
In Deliver Me, snow falls softly over a desolate public pool. A fourteen-year-old boy lays face down in front of a swing set as his life drains out of the gaping wound in his head. Behind him stands his best friend, a warm gun in his trembling hand.
When children commit horrible crimes, who bears responsibility? And what does it do to us all when we allow ourselves to view children as monsters? At the center of this gut-wrenching story are the lost children: those we fail to catch before they fall between the cracks, whether due to negligence, poverty, or social alienation. The single mothers, the grocer in the town square, the local cop — no one is left untouched in a society where escalating violence is taking over struggling fringe communities.
Directed by Anna Zackrisson (The Restaurant), Deliver Me is at once a poignant portrayal of the power of childhood friendship and a shattering depiction of what happens when a society fails to protect those who need it most. The series is scripted by head writer Alex Haridi (Love & Anarchy) and Amanda Högberg (Top Dog), and produced by Frida Asp (Quicksand) and Fatima Varhos (Bonus Family) of production company Asp Varhos.
Deliver Me began filming in Stockholm two weeks ago, and will launch on Netflix in 2024.
