Netflix has announced its newest Scandinavian Original series, The Nurse, a true-crime thriller out of Denmark.
Based on Kristian Corfixen’s award-winning nonfiction true-crime book The Nurse: The True Story Behind One of Scandinavia’s Most Notorious Criminal Trials, Netflix’s The Nurse tells the true story of the Danish nurse who was convicted of the attempted murder of four patients at Nykøbing Falster Hospital.
Josephine Park (Baby Fever, Darkness: Those Who Kill, The Investigation) plays Christina Aistrup Hansen, the Danish nurse, and Fanny Louise Bernth (Ride Upon the Storm, The New Nurses, Dicte) plays Christina’s colleague, Pernille Kurzmann Larsen.
Early one morning in March 2015, Danish police receive a call from a nurse at Nykøbing Falster Hospital, who tells them she suspects her close colleague, Christina Aistrup Hansen, of deliberately killing patients, and that she fears it has just happened again. Soon a murder case unfolds, the likes of which have never been seen before in Danish legal history.
Several other workers at the hospital tell the police that they, too, suspect the nurse has poisoned patients, with some of them admitting that they have been harboring this suspicion for several years. So why hasn’t anyone come forward before? And where is the evidence, since the alleged victims’ bodies have been cremated?
Ultimately, Christina Aistrup Hansen gets sentenced to life in prison in 2016 for four counts of attempted murder. But this isn’t the end of the story…
A project of SAM Productions, The Nurse is directed by Kasper Barfoed (The Chestnut Man, Below the Surface, Those Who Kill), and written by Dorte Warnøe Høgh (When the Dust Settles, Dicte, Anna Pihl) and Kasper Barfoed. It is produced by Nina Leidersdorff (Borgen, Ragnarok) and Morten Kjems Hytten Juhl (Pros & Cons, Lulu & Leon). The Executive Producer is Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen.
