The Lying Life of Adults (La vita bugiarda degli adulti) is based on Elena Ferrante’s (My Brilliant Friend) novel The Lying Life of Adults, a New York Times and national best-seller named a “Best Book of 2020” by The Washington Post, The Guardian, O, The Oprah Magazine, TIME Magazine and NPR, amongst others.

Set in 1990s Naples, this coming-of-age story follows Giovanna (newcomer Giordana Marengo), a sheltered teen who befriends Vittoria (Valeria Golino, The Morning Show, Rain Man), the estranged aunt her parents detest, in order to better understand herself and the city she comes from. As Giovanna transitions from adolescence to young adulthood, a period when every problem seems unsolvable, she uncovers her family’s lies while discovering an unprecedented Naples.

The Lying Life of Adults, a Netflix Series, premieres globally on Wednesday, January 4, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)

Directed by multi-award winner Edoardo De Angelis (Indivisible), the six-episode series costars Alessandro Preziosi (Masantonio) and Pina Turco (Gomorrah).
