Speak No Evil (Gæsterne) follows two families — one Danish, one Dutch — who meet and become fast friends while on holiday in Tuscany. Months later, the free-spirited Dutch family extends an invitation to the more conservative Danish one for a holiday weekend getaway at their countryside home. However, things gradually get out of hand as the joy of reunion is replaced with misunderstandings. The Dutch hospitality quickly turns unnerving for the Danes, and the latter find themselves increasingly caught in a web of their own politeness in the face of eccentric — or is it sinister — behavior.

Morten Burian (Follow the Money, Dicte) and Sidsel Siem Koch (Borgen, Seaside Hotel) play the Danish couple, Bjørn and Louise, and Fedja van Huêt (Amsterdam Undercover, The Adulterer) and Karina Smulders (Women of the Night, The Neighbors) portray the Dutch couple, Patrick and Karin.

Speak No Evil has its US streaming debut on Shudder on Thursday, September 15, about a week after the start of the film’s theatrical run in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, September 9, which will be followed by the national rollout beginning Friday, September 16, as announced by IFC Midnight.

Directed by Christian Tafdrup (A Horrible Woman), who wrote Speak No Evil, his first genre film, with his brother, Mads Tafdrup, the multilingual (English, Dutch, Danish) film also played the Goteborg Film Festival 2022, Seattle International Film Festival 2022, Chicago Critics Film Festival, the Fantasia International Film Festival, and the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, where Tafdrup won Best Director.

The film is produced by Jacob Jarek (Holy Spider, Rams) for Profile Pictures, in co-production with Oak Motion Pictures in the Netherlands, with support from The Danish Film Institute, FilmFyn, and The Netherlands Film Production Incentive, with co-financing from DR and Nordisk Film Distribution.

The acquisition deal was negotiated by Emily Gotto, VP, Global Acquisitions & Co-Productions on behalf of Shudder, and Susan Wendt, Managing Director of TrustNordisk.
