Clark Olofsson, the notorious Swedish criminal who gave rise to the expression “the Stockholm syndrome,” gets his own Netflix treatment in the streamer’s new Original series Clark, starring Bill Skarsgård (It, Castle Rock, Hemlock Grove) as Olofsson, one of the most controversial personalities in contemporary Swedish history.

Said series director and writer Jonas Åkerlund (Lords of Chaos):

“Swedish rockstar criminal Clark Olofsson is famous all over the world for a reason. He is a master manipulator, a black belt seducer, a media blitz with a psychotic mind and everything in between. With wit to match his skills with manipulation, this series will take the viewer on a journey back to the swinging 60s and 70s and onward into the darkness of the late 70s and 80s. It’s the Clark Olofsson story we have not seen before. All told by the Stockholm syndrome man himself – the puzzling man behind all the crimes.”

Based on the truths and lies revealed in Clark Olofsson’s autobiography Vafan var det som hände, the fictional drama follows Clark on his life journey as he fooled all of Sweden to fall in love with him, despite several counts of drug trafficking, attempted murder, assault, theft, and dozens of bank robberies.

In addition to Bill Skarsgård, the cast includes Adam Lundgren (The Restaurant), Sandra Ilar (Parterapi), Vilhelm Blomgren (Gösta), Peter Viitanen (The Unlikely Murderer), Hanna Björn (My So-Called Father), Isabelle Grill (Midsommar), Alida Morberg (Black Lake), Björn Gustafsson (People of Earth), Malin Levanon (Love & Anarchy), Sofie Hoflack (Baptiste), Alicia Agneson (Vikings), Robin Nazari (Snabba Cash), Linus Wahlgren (Beck), Claes Malmberg (Dancing Queens), Alexander Karim (The Lawyer), Christoffer Nordenrot (Fallet), Daniel Hallberg (Bonus Family), Rachel Mohlin (Welcome to Sweden), Henrik Lundström (The Bridge/Bron/Broen), Arja Saijonmaa (The Sixth Time), Emil Algpeus (First Responders), Hans Erik Dyvik Husby (Hassel), Agnes Lindström Bolmgren (The Restaurant), Babben Larsson (The Inner Circle), Peter Järn (Thicker than Water), Henrik Hjelt (Playa del Sol), Kristian Luuk (Dips), David Batra (Beck), Peter Apelgren (The Simple Heist), Staffan Kihlbom Thor (Arne Dahl), Rikard Ulvshammar (Triggermen), Freja Beha Erichsen (The Tale of a Fairy), Amalie Bruun (Bleu de Chanel), Wilson Gonzalez (You Are Wanted), Lukas Wetterberg (Beartown), and newcomer Kolbjörn Skarsgård, who plays Clark Olofsson as a 6-year-old.

A production of Scandinavian Content Group, the six-episode Swedish language drama is written by Jonas Åkerlund, Fredrik Agetoft (Arne Dahl), and Peter Arrhenius (Conspiracy of Silence). The producers are Börje Hansson and Julia Stannard, and the executive producers are Hans Engholm, Jonas Åkerlund, and Bill Skarsgård.

Clark, a Netflix Original, will launch globally on the platform (date tba). (You can set a reminder for it now.) Stay tuned for updates.
