Today Netflix released first look images from The Chestnut Man and announced the series’ global premiere date.
From Søren Sveistrup, the creator of The Killing, comes The Chestnut Man (Kastanjemanden), a character-driven Danish psychological crime thriller whose roots are in Nordic noir. The series is based on Sveistrup’s acclaimed debut novel The Chestnut Man (named a “Best Book of the Year” by Kirkus, Library Journal, and The New York Times Book Review), whose story takes viewers on a dark and unpredictable hunt for a killer who leaves chestnut figurines as a creepy calling card on the victims.
The cast includes Danica Curcic (The Mist, Equinox), Mikkel Boe Følsgaard (The Rain, Borgen), Iben Dorner (The Sommerdahl Murders), Lars Ranthe (Seaside Hotel), David Dencik (Quicksand), Esben Dalgaard Andersen (Couple Trouble), Morten Brovn Jørgensen (Rita), Jens Jørn Spottag (The Legacy), Camilla Lau (Ride Upon the Storm), Peder Thomas Pedersen (The Lawyer), Marie-Lydie Melono Nokouda (Department Q: The Absent One), Anders Hove (Splitting Up Together), Thomas Hwan (Follow the Money), and others.
In a quiet suburb of Copenhagen, police make a terrible discovery one blustery October morning: A young woman is found brutally murdered in a playground, and one of her hands is missing. Next to her lies a small man made of chestnuts. The ambitious young detective Naia Thulin (Danica Curcic) is assigned to the case, along with her new partner, Mark Hess (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard). They soon discover a mysterious piece of evidence on the chestnut man — evidence connecting it to a girl who went missing a year earlier and was presumed dead: the daughter of politician Rosa Hartung (Iben Dorner).
A project of SAM Productions, the series is directed by Mikkel Serup (The Protectors) and Kasper Barfoed (Those Wh0 Kill). The writers are Søren Sveistrup (The Day Will Come), Dorte W. Høgh (Dicte), and David Sandreuter (Pros and Cons). Morten Kjems Hytten Juhl and Stine Meldgaard are the producers, and Søren Sveistrup, Meta Louise Foldager Sørensen, and Mikkel Serup the executive producers.
The Chestnut Man, a Netflix Original series, premieres globally on September 29, exclusively on Netflix. You can set a reminder for it now at www.netflix.com/thechestnutman.
